Total Time = 1h 37m 4s
Overall Rank = 113/334
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 14/22
Pre-race routine:

Up at 4:30am. Hit the road about 5:30 and arrived at about 7:15 - way ahead of schedule. Had a powerbar and and english muffin with pb&j on the way down.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 13m 41s
  • 875 yards
  • 01m 34s / 100 yards
Comments:

Didn't like the run in start from the beach. Just a recipe for cutting your foot on something. Some knucklehead swimming the same pace as me was on my right and couldn't navigate worth a crap - he kept pushing me off my route to the left. Finally pulled up and let him by only to be cut off by him coming back from the right just before the bouy. Hit open water after the first turn for the rest of the swim. Arms were a little tired - definitely not enough swim training. Didn't seem to hurt my time much though
What would you do differently?:

Swim more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 55s
Comments:

At least I'm good at something. Fastest T1 in AG and 10th overall.
Bike
  • 50h 22m
  • 15 miles
  • 0.30 mile/hr
Comments:

First 4 miles were dead into the wind and my legs took forever to come around. They finally felt good and HR settled down at about mile 3 and I was good after that. Highlight of the bike was the downwind portion at 25-27mph with the wheels singing. The low was being passed by a guy on a road bike with toe clips wearing crocs.
What would you do differently?:

Bike volume was pathetic the last month.
Transition 2
  • 01m 19s
Comments:

Didn't have Yankz so this was a long transition lacing up my shoes.
Run
  • 30m 47s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 54s  min/mile
Comments:

Not a good run. Had to walk off a serious side stitch and couldn't push at all. Very high HR starting out and couldn't get it under control. Stomach felt full for some reason. Definitely didn't have any gas in the tank - I'm going to blame it on being sick.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick and low bike volume leading up to the race. No bricks either.

Event comments:

This continues to be a great race and my favorite. Great long sleeve technical shirt and attention to all the right details. See you next year!
