My Last Tri went like this. Good swim. Good bike. First half of run poor, seond half of run shutdown. Probably a typical scenerio. I felt fine for energy, and fluids. But legs just felt like two pieces of concrete. Train for more long distance ? aerobic traing ? any recommendations?

First, congrats on the finish. What distance? What distance are you focusing on for next season? When is your peak race? Answering these questions will help you in crafting a periodized training program that builds to your main race. Do you use a heart-rate monitor?

Seeing as how running appears to be your biggest limiter, a one-month running block may help along with aerobic base-building going into the fall/winter.

A good percentage of blowups on the run happen b/c the bike was attacked too hard and/or nutrition on the bike too. Also, how many bricks did you do? I try for at least once or twice a week even if its just a mile run. Was your bike time really good? If so, that could be why.

Thanks for the advice. The distance was 1000 m swim . 46 km bike and 10 km run. I did push a bit on the bike , because I hadnt done a brick work out leading up to this race . I didnt do a brick because I had done a ten mile road race two weeks prior. Next years big race is the Corner Brook Triathlon around July 18th or so, then a Ten mile road race , then a standard distance Tri, and then finish season two weeks later with same TRi I finished this year with. But if I was to focus on one event , it would problably be corner brook TRI and then the Last Tri of the year . Season is short around here. And not a lot of events. So I would like to get as many in as possible. So four big events instead of two. But these are the goals at which I wish to succeed . In the run part I felt like I had too much water in my stomach and was never comfortable at all. It was a hot day and seemed like all the fuids in my stomach were keeping my temprature up ,instead of down.

Ah ha! Ok, I highly suggest multiple bricks before races. Not just one (or none).

I was pretty much thinking that. But because the The ten mile was close I didnt know what to do , I didnt want to fatigue legs too much. Its hard to know.

Canadian, this fall/winter, if you have access to a trainer and treadmill (or don't mind training outside if weather permits), one brick/week is conducive. This will assist you in building muscle memory for next summer/fall in crunch times when you have races on back-to-back weekends and need to give the legs a rest during the week.

That was going to be my next question . Are Bricks only to be used or good for weeks leading up to an event ?

They should be done throughout your training. I was suggesting if you had back to back weekends of racing, skipping a brick would not hurt you IMO.
