Pre-race routine:

Absolutely lousy night's sleep. Got up about 5:45 and had a pretty crappy pre-race meal: Toaster Streudel, milk, gel pack, water, and a cookie.
Event warmup:

Easy 8 minutes or so running. Plenty of stretching.

Comments:

Great race, today. The weather was really perfect. When I first got up, it was cold. Definitely frost/ice on the windshield. After getting my heart rate up and a little warm-up in, I was fine in my long sleeve shirt and shorts.

I planned on running the first half at about 170 bpm on my HRM and then picking it up to the upper 170's the second half. But I felt really good even though I was in the mid-170's in the second mile. I just kept it there and then pushed it over 180 that last few miles.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I think my pacing was right on. I was worried for a bit that I was going out too fast, but I picked it up the last few miles and felt like I was pretty much spent when I finished.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate post-race food, rode the bus back to the start, took an ice bath when I got home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm still new enough at this after 2 years, that I haven't yet found out how fast I can really go. Until then, time spent building my running fitness is my only limiter.

Event comments:

The start was delayed because of problems with the PA that they never did get figured out. Post-race spread was good with Krispy Kremes, breakfast tacos, cookies, fruit, etc. They even had a 3M employee band playing that wasn't half bad. I didn't stick around long, though. I wanted to get home and take my ice bath.

Congrats Dennis on a great race!  Sounds like your crappy pre-race meal didn't hurt your race a bit.

 Good luck at Freescale!

Look at that 6:56 mile in there at the end! Way to pace it. You're getting faster...maybe it was the toaster strudel. Nice job!

Congrats on your race today! It was definitely a great day for racing in Austin today.

As for the above, just wait until you've been running for a while and then bump it up a notch or two. That's where I'm at now. Freescale will be my 10th marathon and after this season's races (Distance Challenge races), with some serious training this year, I'm finding I have no idea how fast I can really run. My goal today was 1:44 and I smashed the heck out of that with 1:37:10. That's a 15 1/2 minute PR over Motive this year and a 16 minute PR over my best 3M. It's sure fun, but a new and interesting expiriment after all these years of running.

Congrats to all who were out there today. 3 weeks of fun and tapering before Freescale!
