Subject: Who's doing what Tri's this year?

As the season creeps forward and we begin to register for our tri's, I'm curious who's doing what.  Anyone else want to share?  I think when we get closer to the races we should communicate and plan a BT get together on race day at each one, if just to say hi.

This is my first tri season and I'm keeping it fairly conservative.

I'm doing Lake Zurich, IL (OLY) for sure and maybe one sprint earlier in the year but I'm not sure which, either Batavia or Waukegan.

How about you?

Hi Hi Hi Hi....

Am on track for Spirit of Racine this summer for certain.

Possibly Palatine, or the US Women's race that's in Naperville. Have not signed up for either of those yet and they may fall on the same day.

Lake Zurich, possibly also. Did that race last year and it was pretty nice.

Incidentally, doing Mach Madness Half Marathon in Cary next Month.... and maybe the Big Shoulders Swim in Lake Michigan ((OR)) Lake Geneva Olympic distance... ???

The summer's plan is still pending. My training partners have mentioned a marathon... and the thought of that makes me sick to my stomach, but I'd be willing to give it a try. EEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'm in Chi-town near the south side, but I'm heading up to WI to run the Delavan Lake Triathlon.
June 3rd. I'm planning on going the olympic distance, but they have sprint and super-sprint too.
I'd love to do others, but I'll probably be spending the summer in Thailand doing research, so I'll have to settle with one early on in the season.

Whizzer, do you have info on the Palatine Tri for this year? It's the Twin Lakes one, right?

I'm going to do:

For Sure:
Batavia, June 11th (Never done before, but I like the local ones)
Subaru women's tri, Naperville, June 25th (B Race)
Door County Tri, Wisconsin, July 23 (A Race)
Glenview, July 30 (My favorite race. This one is tiny and is just fun and good for first timers)

I won't do all of these, but maybe one or two
Maybe:
Delavan, WI - June 3rd
Danskin Woman's, Pleasant Prairie, WI - July 9 (Last year's was so horribly run that I don't know if I want to do it again)
Stoneman, Springfield - July 15

Jumping in, I was turned on to Palatine by Whizz too.  Yes, it's the Twin Lakes one.  I'm doing it for my first tri.  They don't have sign up info out yet.  Here's the website for the organization.

Plan to do that same two as last season:

Rockford YMCA Triathlon Experience - A SPRINT sometime in August I think

Lake Geneva - Sprint

Then possibly add:

Spirit of Racine and Big Foot

Plan to keep to sprints unless my running comes along well enough for 6.2 miles.  Not to concerned about an olympic swim (even though I've had no swim training so far this winter), I know I can complete the distance.

May make it out to do the Rockford one. I grew up there and haven't been back for several years. Good excuse to lookup old friends.

Holy Cats Possum!  that horrible hilly hundreds looks awesome.  I'll be in no shape for it this year, but in the years to come that would be an awesome goal.  Wow.  Are you doing the 100k or 200k?  wow, what a challenge!

Possibly New York City Tri (yes, I live in Chicago, this would be road trip to visit friends too) in July.

Probably Benton Harbor 1/2 Ironman (my first) in early August.

Definitely (already signed up) Accenture in late August.

Just registered for the Naperville Sprint Tri on 8/13. This is a cool medium size sprint that was well run last year (but a real lame goodie bag, if I recall). Runs a very similar course to the Women's only tri in June at the same location.

I feel like i might collapse first lol...i've been slacking off for the last few months, and getting back into the training is hard - but hopefully by mid march i'll be feeling great again. I spent a whole weekend putting my training schedule together, to make sure i didnt compromise my marathon training and my tri training. That was interesting. But guess what...i also went back to school this year....so all in all i have no spare time.

Hopefully we'll see some of you at these races.

Have any of you ever done the Naperville tri before?

I am doing it (first time and first tri) and am wondering about whether or not I need a wetsuit for the swim. Can the water really be that cold?

No laughing, remember I am a newbie

I have done Naperville the last two years and I think it is save to say you don't need a wetsuit. I believe the water temp was like 82 last year so a wet suit would not even be allowed under USAT rules. The swim area is a man-made lake/pool type thing that gets really warm veru early in the season.

Good luck!
