Subject: whats a good book about sports nutrition
Im wondering if there are any decent books out there amongst the hundreds of "loose 10kg in 10day" type books that provide advice etc on the best type of food for people in training for tri's or sport in general

I have the Paleo Diet for Athletes book. It does talk about the Paleo diet, but it also has a lot of very recent information about sports nutrition. They break down eating into periods: prior to working out including the last 10 minutes, during exercise (further breaking down what to eat when exercising for varying lengths of time), within 30 minutes after exercise, within the period of time after exercise that is equal to the length of the exercise session, and the period until your next Stage 1. I'm only a few chapters into it, but I like it a lot. Seems like you don't even need to be into the Paleo diet to get something out of it.

"Food For Fitness" by Chris Carmichael. Great read. Very detailed diets and periodization.

Good thread, is the Carmichael book too specific to cycling instead of tri?

thanks

^^^no the book has plans for triathletes in it as well. Very detailed so that you can taylor your diet to your personal needs. Its the best book I've seen/read on endurance nutrition and I'm in the exercise/health field.

Nutrition periodization for endurance athletes by Bob Seebohar.  He is one of my professors at UF and a triathlete himself.

Almost any book by:

1. Monique Ryan
2. Ellen Coleman
3. Nancy Clark
4. Suzanne Gerard-Eberle

Depending on what type of info you need, the above authors are experts in their field and all of their books are very useful.

Check out the Gatorade Sports Science Institute for some great articles on many topics (www.gssiweb.com). Doesn't help you build an eating program but does have some good and useful info for us endurance athletes.

FWIW, after checking out seebohar's web site and CV, if he says to read something, I'm reading it.

I tried calling my fiance, who is getting her masters in nutrition and her RD, but she was sleeping (go figure when you get up at 5am to train.) I know she has recommended books by Nancy Clark and bought me the Cyclist Food Guide. She along with other nutrition Professors and RD's at Iowa State have been working on a sports nutrition website. I have not really looked through it yet but I will post a link, maybe it has something you can use.
