Joe,

My brother and I need to do this BEFORE April 1st. We need to try to practice open water swimming and sighting at least once before the tri. When are you planning to go?

I may try to go NEXT weekend. Anyone interested?

Next weekend Sunday afternoon 3/19 might work for me. This would be for practicing with my new wetsuit.

The only glitch would be... finding the time between now and Sunday to buy a wetsuit.

I don't have one either. I was going to just "be tough" and deal with it. Is that a BAD idea?

I could do 3/19.

Not sure if we could make it on 3/19, we would have to bring the kids if we did.

Any idea what the water temp should be? I do not have a wetsuit and have no plans on buying one soon.

I will see what we have going on and post here when I figure it out.

Joe: Okay...let us know. How old are your kiddos? I do have a teenage daughter that could possibly come to help out. I would need to check her Sunday work schedule first. She's a sweetheart and loves kids. You've heard of the horsewhisperer? She's the kidwhisperer.

Celeste: My brother and I plan to go. Let me know if you have decided to go.

I just called Twin Lakes and he wasn't sure of the exact temperature but guessed in the 60's. He said it usually runs a couple degrees different from the surf temp which today ranges from 66.4 to 69.1. Now my next question, is that too cold to swim in w/o a wetsuit? I'm new to all this stuff. I figure once you start swimming, you will warm up, right? Would someone of wisdom shed some light on this? I really don't want to buy a wetsuit (I am in the process of losing weight) but on the other hand, I feel that I NEED to do at least one open water swim before April 1st.

My kids are 7 and 9. They should be able to sit on the dock and watch. Having someone there to help would be great.

66º to 70º-----BRRRRRRRRRRRRR, that is pretty cold.

I agree, getting as many open water swims first would only be a good thing, but lake OW vs Gulf OW is differant. It still would be a help.

Joe:

Jeanette told me about the OW Clinic put on by the Galveston Beach Patrol this weekend. I was able to register for it. So I am going to pass on the Twin Lake swim this weekend but DEFINITELY want to go w/BTers another time. (I hope you can forgive me after all of the begging I did )

Now I need to get a wet suit - ackkkk! And, figure out how to get there. I think I am going to stay at one of my relative's houses who live out that way. I am NOT a morning person but I'm trying hard to overcome that. I even registered for the My First Tri 10:00am "late start".

Celeste,

Do you want to do the OW Beach Patrol clinic on Saturday? If so, let us know.
A good opportunity to try the new suit!

Hi folks, sorry, was AWOL a few days!

Answers:

I only wanted to buy my wetsuit for a chance to practice in it before Texas Tri, which is next weekend, 1-mile swim, and colder.

Galveston clinic won't work for me due to other stuff going on Saturday.

And YES, another time for Twin Lakes. Given recent developments I will probably not go this weekend.

HAVE FUN!

I am not going to make it this weekend either.

Knowing Twin Lakes is open again is a good thing, so we will have to plan something later....
