I am looking to purchase a good recovery drink. Did some searching online and think that the two I listed are great choices. Anyone know if one is better than the other?

I've been using Endurox for about 3 months or so. Must say it's incredible stuff. I use it right after a workout or race and there's hardly any soreness the next day. Never tried Ultragen, but here's a big thumbs up for Endurox.

Never tried Ultragen, but stay away from the LemonLime Endurox. Most people do well with the tangy orange.

Add a scoop of whey protein to the chocolate milk, eat the cereal (bran flakes) while soaking in the ice bath. Describes yesterday morning after my eighteen-mile run, really any morning after LSD of 16+.

I have heard people say they hate the taste of Endurox and am guessing it must be the lemon lime, because the fruit punch is just darn tasty. Don't know anything about Ultragen but big thumbs up for Endurox. Expensive though.

You like the fruit punch? I don't know how they classify it as fruit punch, it tased more like bubble gum with a nasty aftertaste to me. I would just time travel back to college and chug it. I use Recoverite by Hammer Nutrition now and like it.

I have tried Endurox R4 and found that it helps speed up recovery. I haven't tried Ultragen. The Endurox R4 chocolate flavor is my personal favorite.

I tried the Ultragen for a week. I just didn't like the way it tastes. I forced myself to drink it for a week and then I gave up. I figure If I don't like the way it tastes I am less apt to drink it.

I like the Endurox and I have tried the Accelerade Recovery. Again, I am going with the mindset that If I like the way it tastes I am more likely to mix it up and bring it with me to drink after my workouts.

FWIW, I started taking the OPTYGEN and The MULTI V while I was training for my last Marathon and I noticed a difference in my Endurance and in my recovery time. I may just be getting stronger, or it could be Psychosomatic (SP?) but I have been sticking with them ever since.

I've been using Endurox for about a month now and have been real pleased with it. Seems to help aid in recovery from hard workouts.

Only problem is that it gives me the farts something awful.

A tangent...

What is an ice bath?  Is it basically cool water, or do you literally add lots of ice to the bath?

Thanks

I use Endurox and Accelerade...great products.  I prefer the Fruit punch Endurox and Blue Raspberry Accelerade myself...it's a personal preference you'll have to figure out for yourself.  If you decide to try Endurox hit DPSNutrition.com...best prices you'll find anywhere, cheap shipping and very fast service.  I've probably made 20 orders over the past few years and always have my stuff in 3-5 days.

While I certainly agree that you have to like the taste in order to drink a beverage, Ultragen is superior in its nutrient composition from the proper amounts of carbohydrates and protein (and no fat) to the types of protein, to the branched chain amino acids and glutamine.

Ultragen hands down.

Care to support that with data showing why the specific nutrients in Ultragen are superior?  Convince me it's the better choice and I'll gladly switch.

It's always nice for people to divulge their vested interest in a product when touting it in a public forum.

I am a member of the First Endurance Research Board which means they use my scientific knowledge and field experience with sports nutrition to help support the efficacy of ingredients in their products. I am not an employee of the company.

My response was from a sports dietitian view solely. Ultragen has 100% dextrose (glucose) which has a faster absorption rate in the body. It has protein isolates and hydrosolates which are the highest quality proteins, it has no fat and a good amount of sodium to enhance the reabsorption of nutrients and fluids.

I'm not selling stock in the company. They just make a good recovery beverage that is superior from a nutrient standpoint than many others on the market. Plain and simple.

PS- I am also the Director of Sports Nutrition for the University of Florida (the birthplace of Gatorade) and we use solely Gatorade products with our athletes. I will use whatever product it takes to get an athlete to fuel themselves better and recover faster. I don't look at products for their names...I look at them for their INGREDIENTS.

I'm not trying to get you to switch. Too many factors associated with adopting a beverage. I'm just stating the nutrition facts about the different ingredients.

That's all you had to say.  I wasn't commenting on the content of your post.  It's just good practice to tell people where you're coming from.

For those interested in comparing products, First Endurance has a comparison chart available: http://www.firstendurance.com/comparison_review.pdf

Ireally wish they would also cite the individual studies that they use to base their claims about clinically effective dose and such.  It's one thing to make a claim but another to back it up with data.  I can't simply be happy with the "more is better" concept so I really need to know why 6g of L-Glutamine is the appropriate dose compared to 2.5g for instance.  Convince me with the facts.  This isn't directed at Bob specifically, although it would be great if he could provide some references to help support the First Endurance claims.  I'm not asking anyone to change my mind about which recovery drink to use...I just want to be given the information to make my own informed decision.
