Any songs that get you particularly pumped while running, cycling or at the gym?

Do share....

Personally, I'm liking Republica's "Ready to Go" at the moment.

80's Punk or New Wave pretty much sums me up. I truthfully haven't bought much "new" stuff since the Police broke up. (Darn you Sting) I keep waiting/hoping that (C)rap will go the way of the DoDo and of course its musical equal Disco.

On the run= "BYOB" System of a Down

On the bike= "Mother"  Danzig

In the pool= I try to block out the country they have blaring on a portible radio.  It is so loud you can even hear it under the water.  Man I hate country.  They need to make a waterproof iPod that can be hooked to the lifeguard so when he is yelling asking if I need help I will hear him and be able to respond "No, that's just the way I swim".

Considering I'm your typical college student and have more music then sense (yes some 6500 songs now in roughly 2 years of owning my computer) I just hit auto load on my ipod and let it play, I swear some of the stuff I have on my computer I've never heard of before.

If anyone wants some songs or has any requests I'm sure I can send some to you.  And yes none of my songs are illegal... all legit from CD's I purchased or roomies/friends did.

I have everything from Cotton Eyed Joe to Andrea Bocelli, but my favorite is something I call "Unknown Theme Song."  I got it from my daughter, who got it from her soccer coach, who's daughter put together a mix that was played in the traveling van to pump up the team at tournaments.  It's something akin to Steriogram, and I've noticed I run with much better form and speed when it comes on.  I like to think of it as my personal theme song, and I sure wish I knew what it was called.

Here are some of the songs I've been running to lately:

Hawkmoon 269 - U2 (great opener)
Pretty Vegas - INXS
Beverly Hills - Weezer
Are You Gonna Be My Girl - Jet
Take Me Out - Franz Ferdinand
Starry Eyed Suprise - Oakenfold
Union - (Ft. Sting) - Black Eyed Peas
Pump It - Black Eyed Peas
Holiday - Green Day
Whip It - Devo
Save A Horse (Ride a Cowboy) - Big & Rich
One Way or Another - Blondie
Feel Good Inc - Gorillaz
Seven Nation Army - White Stripes
Gin & Juice - Phish

Some of the lyrics are may not appeal to everyone - but these are some of the songs that keep me moving.

When I can make time to run it is the SOUNDS OF NATURE.

For biking it's the SOUNDS OF SPINERVAL

Gin & Juice - Phish

Actually that version of Gin and Juice is by a group called The Gourds. On file sharing networks it is commonly mislabeled as being by Phish, Kenny Chesney, or Tim McGraw. Not that I am too particular or anything...just a big fan of the Gourds. I have it on my training mix as well...

I get very eclectic with my training mix:

Evanesence - All of me
Kid Rock - Bawitdaba and American Bad Ass
Drowning Pool - Bodies
Ludacris and Sum 41 - Get Back
Bocelli and Sarah Brightman - Con te Partiro
Snoop Dogg - Pump Pump
The Ataris - Boys of Summer
Notorious BIG - Hypnotize
Stroke 9 - Little Black Backpack
Dr. Dre - Keep Their Heads Ringin
Dre and Ice Cube - Natural Born Killers
David Allan Coe - Copperhead Road
Metallica - One
WWF Stone Cold Steve Austin Theme Song
Eazy E - Gimmie That Nut (just found that last week)
Charlie Daniels - Simple Man

  • ..and there are a few others I throw in every now and then...
  • Music makes it all much less painful...

I've actually been rediscovering Smashing Pumpkins- Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, and conversely James Iha's solo CD called Let It Come Down. I've also been feeling Five Iron Frenzy a LOT lately...it's Christian punk/ska, but its silly/uplifting/fun listening in general.

Since I'm still in college I am able to get loads of music from friends at a very fast speed and with easy access, and also I use Itunes to get some of my music with a program that allows me to download music that I see on the network at school

iTunes.  I've imported most of my favorite CD's, and purchased a few newer albums online rather than CD's  (I'm getting tired of storing things.)  The old LP's are a bit of an issue.  So far, I've just purchased the individual songs as I remember them.  Everything goes on the iPod so I have it all at the gym, and I can use iTunes at the office to play whatever strikes my fancy.

    Wow... Talk about eclectic:

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Second Helping ( How can you not like these guys?)

Placebo - Without I Am Nothing (yes ... a bit homoerotic)

    Yeah Yeah Yeah's - Show Your Bones ( I love a screamer)

All My Mashups ( can't live w/o them)

RHCP - One Hot Minute ( IMO< their second best CD)

RATM - All CD's (Makes me want to scream)

Gnarls Barkley - New CD (weird... check it out)

Soundgarden - BadMotorfinger ( Still a kickass album)

Matisyahu - Youth ( how can you NOT like a Hasidic Reggae Rapper?)

Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend ( One of teh most underrated artists of the 90's)

I have to ask - does anyone other than myself train and revel in the freedom of just hearing your feet on the ground, the air as it moves past your head, the birds, the sounds of the street?

Am I the only one left not cocooned by music?

That Gin and Juice is also covered by a band called Yonder Mountain String Band.

They could be considered in the same jam band genre as Phish...and are becoming much more popular from people mislabeling that download and Phish having broken up..

So last night I was looking for a change of pace during a ride on the stationary at the gym...
I came across Clint Mansell's "Requiem for a Dream" (from Lord of the Rings II) buried deep in my iPod...talk about getting pumped!!!!
Even though it is all instrumental the movements of the music are AWESOME!!!!
I had it on repeat the whole time I was on the bike...

    I highly recommend!!!!

I'm with Wookie for the most part. I listen to music while weight training, but I find it hard to listen to music and get into that semi-trancelike running zone. It seems almost like sacrilege to intentionally block out the sounds around me (I'm lucky enough to have local trails and a quiet town to run in, though-if I lived in a busy city I might not keep this attitude for long).

But, for weights and the gym (not sure of some of the titles):

A Rock Per Feeling - The Goods
Take it Back - Pink Floyd
Coming Back to Life - Pink Floyd
    Shine -not sure
Vive l'Amour - Le Vent du Nord
When the Night Feels My Song - Bedouin Soundclash
When I'm Up (I Can't Get Down) - Great Big Sea
I've Been Everywhere - Johnny Cash
    Fields of Gold - Sting
    Fast Car - Tracy Chapman
    Bedshaped - Keane
I Wish I Felt Nothing - the Wallflowers
    Stay - Timothy Chaisson
    Ashtabula - David Francey
Under African Skies - Paul Simon
I Want to Break Free - Queen

and a slew of songs by Black Mombazza. I have no idea what they're called. A really mixed assortment.
