Thanks for all of the well wishes everyone. Yeah, it really sucks to be a widower at 35. You say your "I do's" and expect that you'll have a long time to drive each other nuts Jen's goal was to beat Leukemia, and that she did. The transplant grafted well and she had been in remission since. Unfortunately, all of the side effects conspired against her and she lost her very courageously fought battle. Currently, I'm flipping through the whole emotional picture-book; Peace and agitation, relief and sorrow, blah, blah, blah. Someone asked me this past weekend (quite retorically) why these terrible diseases happen to such good people. Not one to let a retorical question lie, I replied "Because if these diseases happened mostly to bad adults, we wouldn't bother trying to find a cure for when innocent children are affected by them." Maybe not my most well thought blurb, but it made the point to me.

My Sifu (martial arts teacher) has a favorite saying that he uses to encourage all of us to strive for continuous improvement. "The rising tide raises all of the ships in the harbour." In other words, just one person who raises the bar for themselves raises the bar for everyone that they encounter. For many who knew her, Jen was that rising tide. Jen's best attribute is that she never accepted mediocrity from herself. Her "worst" attribute was that she never accepted it in anyone else either.

Below is the obituary that was run in a few local papers.

-Frank

Frank, I'm so sorry to hear of Jen's passing.  You've both been courageous, loving, giving, feeling, and models of grace under fire under the harshest of circumstance, one that I know all too wel.  My heart goes out to you and your family; you and Jen are in my thoughts and prayers.

I haven't posted because words seem inadequate.  Having lost a sister to cancer, I know there is nothing to say, but I can add my name to those who are thinking of you, Frank.

You and your family are in my prayers.

Frank, you and Jen are an inspiration, even to those, like me, who haven't had a chance to get to know you at BT. Your love is awesome, amazing and something that death can't separate. I'll be praying for you.

I read this and had to close my browser and go hug my kids.

I did the same to both my wife and daughter. I don't know Frank and this is the first I have heard of his wife's struggles yet I am deeply saddened at his loss.

Frank, prayers sent for you and your family.

i have been MIA on here for a while and saw this post at the top and linked to your blog. I was at work and scanning through the entries. My eyes were welled with tears as someone walked over to ask me a random question and asked if i was ok. I had just looked at the pic of one of your dogs in the hospital room and all i could think of was how my husband and i would do the same thing.

But I am so terribly sorry for your loss, Frank. I lost my dad almost 4 yrs ago from complications of the "cure" for leukemia. I threw myself into more TNT events and that helped me a lot. I feel for you - while a dad isn't the same as a spouse, the loss is just as painful. My thoughts are with you and your furry kids. While time heals all wounds but not the pain, your memories and good thoughts will last forever.

I've been reading this for almost two weeks and I still can't find the right words.  Every time I try, I just well up.  But I had to let you know that you are in my prayers.  Having lost three family members to this...and my best friend is going thru this right now...I had to at least let you know that you have been thought of constantly and I hope and pray that things will get better soon.  She's in such a better place now.  Thank you for sharing your experience.  My heartfelt condolences go out to you and your family.

Frank,

I've been lurking in the shadows for a long time now, but I check in every now and again. I just read this and wanted to add my deep sorrow for your loss of your precious Jen. Words cannot express my heart right now.
