While I had a fantastic swim this morning in my new wetsuit, it was a pain in the neck to take off. Took me probably 3-4 minutes. Am I doing something wrong? Is there an easier way to take off the suit? I practically got a cramp in my calf in the process of trying to get the legs off.

I have one word for you- PAM.

I just spray my entire legs with it and it's easier to get on, and it slides right off in T1

If it's that last little bit that's the trouble, just step on that wetsuit leg with the other foot to pin it to the ground and yank out your trapped foot. Repeat for other side. Hard to describe but easy to do. Good luck.

Here's how the PAM works: use the Original (not BUTTER) flavor, spray your legs, arms, whatever else liberally with Pam.  Apply wetsuit.  Swim.  When removing the wetsuit, pull arms/upper torso out of wetsuit, slide hands down your hips/legs but inside the suit.  The suit should slide right down to the ankles.  Step on one leg of the wetsuit, as close as possible to your opposite foot.  Yank opposite foot free, and repeat for other leg(s) as necessary.  Should take far less than 30 seconds.

The most important part: RINSE the wetsuit thoroughly!  You may wish to wash the Pam off with a gentle shampoo...

Even better, after the race when you plan on cooking on the grill, you can rub in down in your wetsuit first.    I know, I know, i'm a smart @$$.  But PAM is a good idea and the best i've probably heard of everybody i've asked.

Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to using the wetsuit at St. A's. The water better stay cold so I can use it!

My advice is when I am coming out of the water I am unzipping my suit and pulling down to my waist. While I am still in the water coming out I then pull the front of the suit forward and duck into the water a little bit. Essentially trying to fill the suit with water. For me this kind of "breaks the seal" and I think puts something between me and the suit. After I get to the beach or T1 it makes it a lot easier. I normally get my wetsuit off in 12-17 seconds.

I agree with this, (granted i've only gotten out of my wetsuit twice so far) I just peel it off so that when I'm done it's inside out, but wetsuits expand when they are wet so it will be easier to take off if it is wet. As for the feet, I hear everyone say "step on it and yank" I find it easier to just to bend over and use my hand to help my foot slip out. I pull the wetsuit over the heel then the rest of the foot comes with it.

The proper way to take the wetsuit off is to peel it off, so it ends up with the inside out when off.
As far as using lubricants, use only Bodyglide. Some manufacturers specify that the warranty will be void if the petroleum based prodcuts are use as lubricants. Many people use Pam, as mentioned before. If you wetsuit is out of warranty period, then it probably doesn't matter. If you get a new wetsuit, read the warranty to see what is says about the use of lubricants.
