My eyes are so bad I can't walk out to get the mail without my glasses....and, so dry I can't wear contacts.

Does anyone have suggestions on options for sunglasses?  Sources for prescription, racing ones? The typical "eyemasters" or other chains really don't have good options.

Thanks in advance for the help  :-)

I'm like you, I can't see too well and I can't stand contacts and afraid of eye surgery.

One option would be, if you have some vision insurance through your employer, i'd go through them first.  That's where I got mine, they are a pair of Rayban Predators and they fitted in some prescription lenses.  I use it for not only biking and running, but all my outdoor sports like skiing.

The other option would be to use an outlet like Performancebike.com and get it through them.  Several brands that offer prescription are bolle, rudyproject, and performancebike has their own in house brand.  I actually bought a pair of performancebike prescription, but returned them because I realized I can get a pair through my insurance.

Last year my wife lost her prescription sun glasses. I mentioned that she should look at Oakleys. She balked at the price. Finally I talked her into it, she got them and loves them. She ended up getting Oakley's for her regular glasses too. She said the lenses were the best she's ever had. (She has really badd eyesight. I would recommend spending the money and going with Oakley. They take a little while to get as they are custom made from their factory. But you can get them at most eyewear shops.

I had the same problem before I got eye surgery.  I bought goggles that had as close as to my prescription as I could get and then discovered that a lot of the better known sunglass makers can make them with your prescription.  I am not sure i have the technology down, but remember that there is a presription 'film' if you will, that they apply to the regular lense?  has any one heard of that?  I may be remembering wrong. My sister has terrible luck with sunglasses and she swears by serengetti's.  they replace their product if it breaks no matter how they break.  She has gone through 4 pairs with only buying one.

I wear Rudy Project glasses with the prescription insert. I love them since sometimes I wear contacts and sometimes I do not either way I can wear the same sunglasses I just have to pop in or pop out the prescription lens insert. I personally use the Rydons but they have a couple of different styles.

I checked out the links in this thread but I don't get it. How do the adapters actually work? Where do they fit? Do they clip it over the sunglasses (in front or behind) or do you actually replace the sunglass lenses? I'm confused. Photo's would help.

I have a pair of Nike sport, wrap arounds, with perscription lenses that I got from my optometrist. They have 180 degree vision, but somehow are still corrective lenses. They look really cool too!

I got this pair in a brown with dark amber lenses. I like that I can wear them even in dimmer light. Otherwise I'd be hauling both pairs of glasses on every ride and run.

Most of the adapters are similar to this link below.  It goes behind the lenses and like previously said, you can remove them if you want to wear contacts instead.  Click on the link below and you can see the prescription lenses behind the "front" lenses.

Of course, there are also RX sunglasses which just replace the "front" lenses.  Those are the ones I got but they are less versatile (I can't remove the adapter and use contact lenses).

Thanks!!!!  Great tips and links.  I would do the surgery; but somehow am not comfortable with it.  My dad had it done and has ended up wearing glasses anyway....soooo what's the point.

I'll check everything out.  Thanks again!!  (BT'ers come through again...  :-)

Thanks for the tip on checking my insurance.  I can actually buy these out of my Health Savings Account.

I also found a RudyProject dealer about 3 miles from my home...a local bike shop.

Thanks Everyone   :-)

I got my prescription sunglasses at Sam's Club.

For the swim you should be able to go a dive shop and get some plastic film to put on your goggles that will act like glasses.
