Pre-race routine:

Signed in, set up, stretched, walked around. The race start was delayed about 15 minutes due to dense morning fog. (In fact, I drove past the venue twice because I couldn't see the signs). I got to meet BT member crouse who was doing his first triathlon.
Event warmup:

100 yard warm up swim, stretching
Swim
  • 07m 20s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 50s / 100 yards
Comments:

Short 400 yard swim - there was a 20 second interval between starts, so crowding was not an issue. I felt good throughout.
Transition 1
  • 02m
Comments:

smooth transition - My bike was on the end of the rack, so my stuff was easily accessible
Bike

  • 13.3 miles
  • 16.41 mile/hr
Comments:

I didn't get on the bike much at all in the early spring so I'm a little out of shape. I pushed myself a little bit harder to keep a decent pace. crouse passed me at around the 9 mile point.
Transition 2

Run
  • 32m 37s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 10m 29s  min/mile
Comments:

This was the first time I have run much distance on grass. It was harder than I had imagined. My pace was slow. I caught up with crouse in T2, and we ran together for the first mile or so. The hills were not long, but they were steep. I had to walk up the last big hill at around the 2.5 mile point.
What would you do differently?:

No surprise - I really hadn't gotten in enough run time prior to the race. I also pushed myself a littl on the bike and I was tired.
Post race
Warm down:

Fruit & Bagels

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not enough running
Not accustomed to running on the grass.
Hills!
