Does iTB issues ever cause pain on the inside of leg at the knee? Running starts with tightness in outer knee area but then radiates to inside of leg at the knee joint crease. Stabbing pain Sorry about the medical terms. ;-)

It's my understanding that it runs from the knee to the hip on the outside of the leg... But its been 15 years since A&P class. Couldn't tell ya if something like "guarding" could cause other problems to that part of the knee.

No.  Is probably 2 separate issues.  Find on othropedist and getit checked out.  Most of the time things are easily fixed with physical therapy if caught early enough

Thanks for the responses. Should a sports med or ortho with sports emphasis be consulted or any ortho sufficient? Do these docs usually require referral or can you go direct.

Probably two issues.
ITB yes
Hamstring issue probably- most of the time when you have pain behind the knee it has to do with your hamstring as it's insertion point is below the knee.

Foam rollers are your friend. And stretch out your hips, glutes, and hamstrings. Standing forward bend, pidgeon pose, figure four, left over right...

I would suspect something other than ITB for the inner pain. My inner knee pain come with overpronating and wearing worn out or incorrect shoes.   FWIW, there's been a strong association between ITB and weak hip stabilizers...so strength training may be more beneficial than stretching.  Doing both is likely even better.
