Which is more sensitive to windy conditions? Since tri-spoke is not evenly deep, does this make unpredictable handling not recommended for training on roads with cars?

a deeper "normal" wheel will have a more steady feel to it, where on a trispoke you will feel the gusts more. Honestly I wouldn't "train" on either (although the trispokes are pretty much invincible) but ymmv.

You can also *optimally* run a wider tire on most of the deep wheels available nowadays, and since bontrager stopped making the aerowing it's going to be increasingly more difficult to have an "optimal" set of trispokes without some hunting.

I ride with tri spokes on about half the time. I weigh in the 180# range and have no trouble at all controlling the bike with the tri spokes on. Wind around here is fairly moderate, but we do get some gusts, especially in the winter. Most of the roads I ride do have some shoulder, but I've never felt having the tri spokes on has resulted in any sort of safety issue. Handling is a little different than my regular training wheels, but I would not describe it as unpredictable.

I've not ridden other deep wheels, so I can't say how handling of the tri spokes compare to them.

I have raced and trained with trispokes in windy conditions and I haven't had any problems controlling my bike.  I am a small guy also.  I raced New Orleans and Kansas 70.3's last year and both races were very windy and I really didn't have any issues.

I had hed 3s front and back and never had an issue more like you lean into the wind and they are fine, now I have a deep 60mm front and hed 3 rear and the front likes to catch the wind on both sides of the wheel front and back makes you pay more attention than on the 3, I would go back to a front and rear hed 3 given the funds! Since I got my tri spokes early last year, I have not taken them off my bike.  All training and racing have been done without any problems with wind.
