Swim
  • 08m 13s
  • 400 yards
  • 02m 03s / 100 yards
Comments:

Started out too fast. Got a heel in the right goggle at 1st buoy and had to roll over to correct. Didn't pay enough attention to form in middle 200 and got sloppy. Targeted an 8:00 swim so missed by 13 seconds.
What would you do differently?:

Swim 100 strokes just before start to get rid of some of the adrenaline and start a bit further back. Make sure to focus on staying in form for the whole swim so more efficient.
Transition 1
  • 01m 45s
Comments:

No timing chip so estimating T1 and T2 times. Took it slow on purpose to recover a bit from swim. Had to put wrist brace on and probably lost 15 seconds there.
What would you do differently?:

Skip the recovery and do an active recovery in the first 30 seconds of the ride where instead of losing 30 seconds would likely only lose 10 or so.
Bike
  • 37m 47s
  • 11 miles
  • 17.47 mile/hr
Comments:

Way exceeded expectations. Had hoped for a 20mph average and ended up at 22.7 mph. Was able to maintain effort on the hills allowing me to pass many.
What would you do differently?:

Nada
Transition 2
  • 01m 30s
Comments:

Estimate 1:30 but that seems long. Calves tried to cramp when squatting to put on shoes but a little stretching took care of that.
What would you do differently?:

Increase cadence in last quarter mile to try and get the legs more ready to run
Run
  • 25m 18s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 08s  min/mile
Comments:

Clunky at begoinning but after 100 yards OK. Probably could have done a sub-8:00 pace OK but since this was my first tri, conservative.
What would you do differently?:

Target a 7:50 pace
Post race
Warm down:

Totally blew it. Minimal walking while refueling.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Too fast out on the swim resulting in poor form for the rest of the segment and a longer T1. Conservative pace for the run.

Event comments:

It was my first tri, so can't make a fair comparison. Used to half and full marathon races.
