Think I need to work on my sighting?

FWIW, there's a giant sand bar in the middle of the lake, so I was trying to swim around it.

Pretty cool how you were able to teleport to shore at the end.

That is so funny!!! My training partner likes to put his GPS around my cap, then he downloads the laps similar to yours, glad I'm not the only one lol! I always say, well, I swam longer than you nanenanenanaa!

Were you wearing it in your cap or wrist?

If it was on your wrist you will get crazy results

A bit off-topic, but when ya'll lake swim are you not worried about the boats and jet-skis and stuff?

Our lakes are full of these hazards!

I don't swim where boats and jet skis are allowed.  If I did, then yes, I'd be worried.

I'm lucky enough to have an awesome OWS lake that is closed to motorized boats.  There are a lot of kayakers and rowers, but everyone's pretty cognizant of swimmers.  Always wear a bright-a$$ swim cap, too!

And to the OP...this post is awesome!  Thanks for sharing...and I agree with this guy ^^^

You really shouldn't drink and swim.

This is a no-wake lake so I'm not going to get jet-ski'd over. There are a few catamarans that putt around but those move so slowly you can get out of their way. And, the giant sand bar in the middle would prevent any major traffic. (Plus I wear a bright pink swim cap and swim with a bright green pool noodle floating behind me.)

It was under my cap! I really do swim that crookedly.

LMAO.

That's cute. I have yet to try OWS...I'm sure my first attempt at crossing our lake in a straight line will look more like a 2-year-old's crayon drawing...

Ours too. Even more overcrowded than most. I haven't tried OWS yet, but plan to before my race. I will probably go around 6am, with my husband or father-in-law kayaking alongside me. There's hardly anyone out, and the red kayak is a much better visual than a black-capped head in the water.

No motor boats allowed in the lake I swim in.

I swim in a large, popular lake but there are plenty of designated swim areas as well as no wake zones. Interestingly, I can hear the buzz of a motorized boat when my ears are underwater, even with ear plugs, from quite a distance. This will make me take a look around as some people do violate the no wake areas, especially kids on jet fleas

Hopefully not too far off topic.....  one day after I got my Garmin, I decided to wear it while (push) mowing the grass.  It was classic.  I sure confused the poor thing!

I go early in the morning, and so far have only had run ins with one fishing boat, and one pontoon.  I swim with a buddy and we wear bright swim caps.  I waved both times to make sure they saw us. (We were in a "No wake zone" which means slow moving boats  If you look here and switch to Satellite view, you can see how many boats are in this area of the lake...

You have to do the same swim again tomorrow WITHOUT drinking beforehand and then compare the two.

Cool! I think one day I'm going to strap one on for a pick up soccer game. That should be fun. It would definitely shine some light on how how I actually work on the the field, ha!

Lol, I once did a 2000 yd OWS event and was very disappointed in my time. Until, that is, I uploaded the GPS data and saw that I covered 3000 yds!
