Run
Comments: Stayed right on pace, considered this more a training run than anything, with Grandma's marathon looming just 2 short weeks away. Slow ramp up to target pace: 8:25, 8:21, 8:17. Each of these I hit early, so at each mile marker, I would start a slow jog, usually for about 30 sec, until my watch hit the time target, then bring the running pace back up to where I THOUGHT I needed to be. Talked with a guy who was about 10 years older, who forgot his watch, so I would yell out splits to him as we would pass the mile markers. Great guy, very encouraging. I would love to run with someone like him for the first 6 miles of Grandma's. This was great training for the marathon. I hit all my time targets about 30 sec early up to about mile 7, then realized, WHOA...this is where the race starts. Ran miles 9-11 just behind and to the left of a young girl (~25) listening to her iPod. She was not in any mood to socialize, and I probably annoyed her a bit, 'cause she ended up picking up her pace a little...so I was MOTIVATING her. Eventually left her at mile 11. Hit all my remaining miles about right on, so the recovery jogs no longer existed after mile 7. At mile 12 quit looking at the watch and just ran. Had QUITE a bit left and was almost sprinting by the time I got to the finish, so I know I could have done a faster PR, but not at the jeopardy of my marathon. VERY pleased with my pace management. If I can manage my pace this well at Grandma's (8:47s - 9 min/mi), I should get my sub 4! Whoo hoo! What would you do differently?: Absolutely nothing. It was a great race, with great people...and a LOT of FIT people. Had a great time...a few conversations during the run. Very encouraging runners...I got as much or more encouragement than I gave... Post race
Warm down: Walked back to mile 12.5 to encourage the rest of the guys. They started coming in about 10 minutes later...this was a training run for them too...we're all running Grandma's. 2 bottles of water, bread roll, banana and orange. Thanked the group from our church that volunteered at the race... What limited your ability to perform faster: Marathon in 2 weeks... Last updated: 2006-02-15 12:00 AM

Rode up to the race with Fred, Mike, Scotty, Terry. Drank Gatorade on the way up. Got there about 1/2 an hour before the race.
Few stretches--toe touches, calf stretches. Just hung out and talked.
