Pre-race routine:

Got up at about 5:30am.
Fed our lovely cats (5) and thenf ixed coffee for me and Erin.
Next we had breakfast, I ate two slices of bread, one with Nutella and one with Jam.
Oh and the night before we ahd my traditional Miracoli pasta dinner.
Event warmup:

Got ther about 10minutes before start. As I was fighting my knee issues, I told Erin to get in the front of the people ready to start while I went to go to the porter-potty.
My warm-up, as so often, was using the potty for a "meeting".
Run
  • 1h 59m 23s
  • 9.32 miles
  • 12m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

I went with a 3walk, 2 run strategy to allow me knee some rest in between.
I was fast in the run (7ish min/mile) and good on the walk too (sub 15min/mile) until I caught up with Erin at mile 6.
She started ahead of me and planned on running the race at ideally a 10ish min/mile.
Nevertheless some hip-pain stopped her around the 5th mile.
So I stayed with her for a bit and then started my run/walk routine again and she went back to consistent running.
As both our pain got worse we decided to walk out the remainder of the course (this was around mile 7).
Sine we are doing one race a month this year and the next pikermi (aka Half-Marathon) is in August, we can't risk the injuries to get worse.
What would you do differently?:

I wore my 100% compression sleeve that allows to be filled with cooling ice-bags. I watered it to keep my knee cool.
As result my shoes (Brooks Adrenalin) and socks got soaked in water. The shoe was so wet that I left a watermark whereever I stepped.
I guess I should have worn my Vibram's (might have also helped with the knee) or my Zoot's (sock-less).
Post race
Warm down:

The run offered cold towels at the finish line. We came in just about under 2hrs and there no towels left.
Also the MIller64 tent was closed already.
This was really sucky as I was looking forward for a cold beer!

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Knee pain, not sure if it is ITBS or "upper"-runners knee

Event comments:

Overall it might have been good if they would ahve not started taking stuff down so early.
I mean not everyone can finish a 15k in sub 1:45!
