18 weeks left by my count. I've started to get more regimented about my workouts but the bike still scares the crap out of me. Looking forward to a few scouting trips this summer.

Head on over to the Ironman site (http://www.ironman.com/triathlon/events/ironman/lake-tahoe.aspx#axzz2UQ7T2TxL) I just learned the run course has changed a little bit. Surprise!

Are we doing that silly Squaw Creek Road out-and-back 4 times, or am I understanding the map incorrectly? I really hope that's not the case...

Twice.  Once at the start, then out to the far turnaround, back to the finish line = about 19.  Then start over, do the Squaw Creek road thing again, continue.  But turnaround much sooner this time, and back to the finish for 26.2.

It'll be good for the spectators because it keeps more of the racers in the area near the finish line without making the course completely boring.

Hey guys, I had minor knee surgery about 6 weeks ago and am back to training. I am hoping to be in race by race day, probably not a blinding speed pace, but hope to be solid enough to take that mean hill a couple times and be able to jog the run. What is the elevation gain on the run, anything nastly or pretty flat? Does the road have a decent shoulder I might be able to go spec out the loop this summer.

Oh this will be number 4, but the leg took me out of training for much too long.

Ok, thanks for the clarification. I like the positive spin you put on it RE:spectators as well

Howdy,

This is not my cabin, I'm just passing on the info for a friend. I have no dog in this fight. Anyways, she has a house in Kings Beach that just became available for rental for Ironman weekend. It is 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom, hot tub, fenced yard, dog friendly.... and only about 6 blocks from the start line / T1 at Kings Beach.

You can see it at http://www.vrbo.com/29143or http://go2sunsets.com(It's called the Sunset Sonata). If you're interested, contact her direct via the info on her websites.

Cheers!

I'm not doing the race but it certainly looks to be fun. Maybe next year or the next I can put it on my calendar if I can convince the wife to vacation there during the school year :D

If you are going to be more than 12 hours (like me) bring a headlamp It's pretty, but my guess is that it will get dark. Also, there is a FB group out there that has some good info.

Hopefully you are on the Facebook page. There is more activity there, which is lousy to catch up on because it's Facebook but there is certainly more activity going on.

Holy Mother of God.  Seriously.  Spent the weekend in Tahoe - and that bike course is UNREAL.

The Lake?!?  Amazingly clear, gorgeous swim.  LOVED IT.  Bike?  Kicked my tush.  5400 feet, my A$$. More like 8000.   Run?  didn't do the course, but did do 10 miles of hilly roads: added about 1 min per mile to my sea level pace, and gasped ALOT.

I'm upping my life insurance.  Surprised

Huge wake-up call this weekend! I did the Boulder HIM as a training run. It was the first time I've raced at altitude and the swim was an eye-opener. I'm usually very confident in the swim but I was having a hard time catching my breath. I had to pull way back to feel comfortable. The bike and run were fine (heat got me more than the altitude on the run). I'm doubling down on the training with the month I've got left!!!

Not bad - much of it is pretty good, in fact.  Some rough stretches, but way better than IMMoo, not as good as IMAZ.  Big training ride 2 weeks ago, lots of peeps on road - no bottles lying around!

....just watch out for the rock on the bike trail!  ;-)

There is an Underwear Run in the works for IMLT. For info, there is a Facebook group, Ironman lake Tahoe 2013, that has the info. Should be fun!

Well I thought I was getting ready for this until I read the threads about 11 to 12 % grades on the hills. Ouche. Are people buying a compact crank up front to help deal with the hills or are you just gona suck it up with what you have?

I have gotten in swims of 4200, 4500 and 4800 with 5100 this week, runs of 15.5, 17, 18 and 18 this weekend, bikes of 95, 105, 112 and 116 with another 116 this weekend, but no hills with more than a 6% grade.

Anyway folks should um check in and stuffs, need more chatter this close to race day. I'm a little concerned about the bike, those hills are gona kill overall paces a wee bit.

There is a really active community over on facebook.

I think most folks are rolling a compact. I'm riding a compact with an 11/25 cassette(I'm a really strong hill climber, both long and steep), plenty of folks going with compact 13/28-13/32.

Hop over to facebook, this subject is pretty much 'the' conversation.

Thanks. Can you just change the front to a compact or do you have to change anything else also?
