Glenwood Springs, Colorado
United States
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 40m 7s
Overall Rank = 5/113
Age Group = W25-29
Age Group Rank = 3/21
Pre-race routine:

Ate PB on Toast and a banana with my coffee. Drove in to the race at 7am and saw the first wave out on the bike. It looked so chilly! I started getting really nervous and wondered how this month off from biking and swimming was going to be.
Event warmup:

Did a little jog in the transition area. Then a little swimming beforehand. I knew that was going to be slower than normal.
Swim
  • 14m 26s
  • 902 yards
  • 01m 36s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was feeling slow. I definitely got my butt handed to me in this wave at the beginning. But once it thinned out it was better. My arms were getting tired in the end. Though form was good throughout and after the first length I was only passed by Katie Elliot and one guy.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Swim once in the past 5 weeks? This is 30 seconds slower than 2 years ago and 1:30 slower than 3 years ago.
Transition 1
  • 01m 4s
Comments:

I pulled on arm warmers onto my wrists here and that lost time, but otherwise good. It did take me awhile to clip in once past the mount line
What would you do differently?:

Start the bike with the arm warmers in my hands and put them on on the course or just not wear them and be a little chilly.
Bike
  • 42m
  • 15 miles
  • 21.43 mile/hr
Comments:

This was fun and fast. Definitely my fastest ever and the only time I have gone over 21 mph average on 15 miles. Out was 26 avg and back was 18.8.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. I was soo happy with this, I beat my goal by 3 minutes and dropped 4:30 from 2 years ago!
Transition 2
  • 01m
Comments:

Other than nearly falling over as I hit the ground this was great. I'm sure practicing this more would help but I think it was a good transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 41m 39s
  • 5 miles
  • 08m 20s  min/mile
Comments:

Once again proved this was my weakest link. I only wish I could have held a faster pace through this. What I held was good for me and I'm happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

I'd like to say I could have held a faster pace, but I did well and I should not complain. And I probably could have used a bit more Heed on the bike or maybe a gel. My blood sugar was super low at the end.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed two little bagel bits with some cream cheese and walked around with Josh.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Not much.

Event comments:

Other than the awards being a tad late (they were scheduled to start much earlier than in past years), this was a perfectly executed race in my eyes. And the awards didn't take 2 hours like they have in past years. I love this race and there is so much cheering at the end of it, it's perfect. Kudos to new race directors.
