Curious as to how your Garmin avg speeds in training comparing to your HIM race speeds.

About 1.5-2.5 mph slower during training for many different reasons including...

Poorer road surfaces during training
Stop lights/signs, water refills, and riding more cautious on downhills during training
Race wheels, tires, tubes, helmet during HIM

Really it depends on your course (both the training and race courses).  I can avg anywhere from 16-20 during training and most of my races are in the 17.5-21.5 range.
