How did the race go?
Poorly. I just felt like I had a very bad day altogether. I wasn't bad in the swim, but not as good as I should have been. I struggled on the bike, probably 1mph slower than I would have expected to be on that course. And then my run was a full minute slower on a 5K than it was just a week before, on a very equivalent (if not easier) course. I was very frustrated, but tried to put it behind me quickly. I've been just racking up the aches and pains lately, so I think that might have had something to do with it.

Sorry to hear it. A bad day on race day is rough. Though hopefully it wasn't an A race, and you got a bad performance out of the way, and save your best for when it really counts.

# 605- 6.2 mi late afternoon/early evening. (3000 yd swim early afternoon)

Planned an 8 mile tempo run, and was going amazingly well. I was already near tempo pace after the first mile, and by mile four I hit a 6:39 mi/mi and felt good to bring it home. That lasted about 2 minutes. Something I ate today disagreed with my big time. It felt like I had a rock in my stomach, but I managed to push away the feeling since my legs were feeling fantastic.

I was at 4.89 miles on my Garmin and had to stop to sit on a guard rail for like 5 minutes until a huge wave of nausea passed. I was hoping to just get whatever was in me out, but (not to be too graphic) it wouldn't come up. So in fear of me having an issue with it "going in the other direction," I dialed my pace way back and jogged it home. I still had to stop once more for a minute or two. Not fun, but glad I made it home.

#606- 2 mi

Had an incident on my bike. About 2 hours into my long ride, my rear derailleur decided to have complete mechanical failure (I think one of the pulley wheels failed), and my bike decided to toss me off the side of the road. No injuries except a few bruises. I was stranded for a bit, but finally got a ride home. Ran two quick miles to keep the streak, then I was off to the bike shop, and then to work. Wont have my bike until late next week. Trying to figure out what to do about that.

#607- 8 mi. Ran at roughly marathon pace. 2500yd swim in AM

#608 - 2 mi recovery day.

Thanks. Will try out the gym bikes. Not sure how that will work out. Hope to be back in my saddle soon.

#609 - 20 mi.

Tougher long run than usual. I did ALOT of hills though, and 6 - 7 miles on trails.

Worth asking the LBS if they have a loaner for you...even a rental.

Day 945, 3.2 miles in a monsoon rain. I would've gone 5 miles but I did not want to risk blistering a couple of days before my race.

Monsoon rain is fun as long as its warm. Dialing it back a notch isn't a bad idea, blisters or no. Id probably go easy the next two days, tomorrow I'd do 2 mile warm up, two mile race pace, then a few minutes jog recovery. Saturday I would do 2 miles and then maybe 6 x 100 strides, smooth acceleration, good turnover, and then take it easy.

You have a really good shot at your goal, not sure of the course or weather, but considering how you went out in Boston, you should have this.

#610 - 4 miles after 3000yd swim, 15 minute on spin bike, and 45 min on other gym bike. I wasn't even breaking a sweat doing about 110 rpms on the spin bike so I moved over to the other bike. Was very uncomfortable and awkward.

I did get some bad news today. Turns out when my rear wheel got ripped from the frame it cracked the carbon frame. They sent pictures of the cracks to Cannondale and they deemed the bike unsafe to ride, so the shop wouldn't fix it. The mechanic said I "probably" wouldn't die riding on that frame, since catastrophic carbon frame failures don't really happen anymore, but they couldn't work on it because of liability.

The sort of good news is that even though something like this isn't covered under warrantee, I'd get 30% off a new bike (Edit: Cannondale). The shop has 3 bikes in my price range, and I think 2 Cannondales, and they managed to squeeze me in tomorrow for a fit as well. So I will be riding out of there on a new bike tomorrow hopefully. It couldn't come at a worse time though. If I hadn't had the recent car issues, I'd probably be in a position to upgrade to something nicer. But hey, a new bike is a new bike.

#610 - 8.2 mi. One hour run, strong steady pace.

Also did 6000 yards of swimming today before the run. I did a 3500 yard workout, got out, hydrated, ate a snack. Planned to go on the gym bike, but I couldn't bring myself to do it, so I jumped back in the pool for another 2500 yards. It's the most I've done in a pool session before. I was swimming well today, but I was pretty beat up by the end.

ImSore, I wish I had your confidence. I am not feeling fully recovered yet from the 24 hour race, it took more out of me than I thought. The race is Saturday morning and temps are suppose to be warm and humid. I do not think the course is too hilly though seeing how it is in Buffalo, it finishes on the 50 yard line of Ralph Wilson Stadium and is called the 50 yard finish.

Day 946, 2.2 miles with some strides.

You are probably making your way to the start line as I type this, so good luck!

#611- 6.2 mi
#612- 4 mi
#613 6.2 mi

Got my new bike on the road yesterday, only had time for a 2 hour ride, but was nice (sort of), the new fit is a bit uncomfortable. I got a fit with the bike and am a bit more aggressive than before, maybe too much. Not so sure I can stay in position for IM distance. I have some 100 milers coming up this month, so I guess I will figure it out. Looking at the photos from the fitter, I look really good. Nice flat torso, and my power from yesterday was pretty much unchanged from before. I rode pretty comfortably (effort wise) at about 240 watts.

Going away camping this weekend (Appalachian Trail) , will do about 20 miles of hiking and some fishing and open water swimming in a lake we are going to. Will get a nice run in tomorrow around some mountains, should be a good time. Run done today, and heading out.
