1439 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? Originally posted by MSU_Brad It's been a long week. Skipped a triathlon I was supposed to do this morning because I've been spending the weekend with my cat, who I have had for 14.5 years. We aren't 100% sure, but I believe he has liver failure and probably only has days left. I didn't want to be gone for 8 hours this morning and potentially not be here when he passed. Say what you will, but this little guy has been with me through everything (multiple job changes, moves, relationships, and deaths in the family). He's been a source of joy for every single day along the way, so I am sticking around for him as much as I possibly can. Ugh. Monday - #694 - 2 miles Tuesday - #695 - 2 miles Wednesday - #696 - 2 miles Thursday - #697 - 4 miles Friday - #698 - 2 miles Saturday - #699 - 2 miles Sunday - #700 - 4 miles I do not blame you for skipping the event, I would've done the same if it was one of my pets. They are part of the family. Sorry to hear about to hear about you cat. Edited by navbtcret 2015-06-28 1:29 PM |

1053 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? #984- 2 mi recovery I have a 50 mile race coming up in 3 weeks. The Burning River Endurance Run in Ohio, they do a 100 miler and I believe this is the first year for the 50. I registered a few days ago. I plan to use it as a prep race and plan to train pretty much right up to it. That will serve as my long run for that week, and will also give me a good picture of where my training is at. 3 months to the day to Grindstone. |

Would you like one if you are? What pace would you be looking to run the final 25 or so in or where ever I would be allowed to join you? I would consider it as it is only a couple of hours drive from where I live. I am also out from streaking again, no injury just a choice I made. I am going a different direction with my training is all. I was doing to many 1 or 2 miles days just to keep the streak alive and that was never my intent when I started streaking way back when. I will still keep up to date with everyone and have some small streaks but as far as doing it for years again I am pretty sure I will not. |

All of your 100+ mile training weeks, and your 30+ mile training runs have been on my mind lately. I keep asking myself, "am I doing enough? Think about how much Ron was running!!!" Good luck in your new training direction, and make sure to check in. I always value and appreciate your input here. Also, the Burning River run only allows pacers for the 100. I do appreciate the offer. Edited by ImSore 2015-07-08 8:02 PM |

Hope everyone had a great 4th #987- 4 mi recovery (from the Holiday!) #988- 11 mi trail #989- 6.2 mi progression #990- 21.5 mi trail with 6200 ft gain (total 12k+ elevation change). Heavy rain early in the run was great, suffocating humidity for the rest of the afternoon, not so much. Also ran into this guy! 1439 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? I will still be stopping by on a regular basis. Heading for the woods to camp this weekend in about an hour. Unwired and unplugged for the weekend. Hope everyone's training continues to go great. I usually see a couple of those snakes every year while running, they sure get your attention in a hurry. I almost stepped and got bit by one a couple of years ago. It had just stopped raining, the sun came out and my glasses were still covered with rain drops. I saw the snake at the last second and swerved just a second before it struck at me. Not sure how close I was to getting bit but it was too close for my comfort. I also moved one off the road one year with a couple of sticks so it would not get run over by a car. It was not happy with me either. |

Regular 1354 Jenison, MI | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? Saturday - #713 - 2 miles easy Sunday - - #714 - ~4 miles in the Grand Haven Triathlon. T1 includes about a ~.75 mile run from the beach up to the YMCA where the transition area is, and then there is the 5K run. I took 2nd in my AG yesterday, which was a surprise. I am not usually anywhere close to placing in this race, but it definitely seemed like a smaller crowd this year. I did have a pretty good race, though. I was probably top 10 out of the water, which was upper 50s - my hands and feet were pretty numb, and I had a headache for the first few minutes of the swim. Bike could've been a little faster, but wasn't bad. I knew my run was going to struggle a little as soon as I woke up because my quads just felt sore and tight, and it is a hilly course. One guy (not in my AG thankfully) got me on the steep hill about .1 miles before the finish line, I just couldn't power up as fast as he could. Still, I was surprised at my time. Now I have today and tomorrow to recover before my 2nd Wednesday night race of the summer. Ugh. |

I think its smart that you fit in the Wed night races. If nothing else they are a great dress rehearsal for your A races, and they force you to go all out and get a solid training session in. |

1053 | Subject: RE: 30 runs in 30 days - who's with us? #991- 3.7 mi recovery #992- 11 mi trail #993- 2 early morning miles. Went on a camp/hiking trip for the weekend and ended up hiking supposedly one of the toughest hiking trails in the country. I was up on the Devils Path in the Catskills I was with my wife, who was a trooper, even with my training it wasn't an easy hike, it was pretty much up and down the whole way. I tried to carry as much as I could and had 60 pounds (with water), she still had 20 pounds to carry and she is pretty small. I should have used the springs to refill water instead of carrying it in. We covered the eastern section and some of the side trails in about 13 hours between the two days. Some nice views and nice sections but is definitely not an easy hike. #994- 4 mi- ran to move the car up a bit to a different lot so we didn't have to hike all the way back with our packs. I had originally planned to run back 13 miles or so from the end of the eastern section of the trail and pick up my wife there, but those 13 miles would have taken me hours. There was quite a bit of climbing and a ton of elevation change. #995- 8 mi trail #996- 3.7 mi trail- I had intended to run farther but in a moment of mental weakness I called it early. I had a ton of excuses, but the mosquitoes were really bad when I went out and I forgot to spray on repellent and they were killing me. #997- 26.2 trail miles with 6800ft elevation gain, and 6800 ft loss. Went up and over the mountain I am training on 4 times and did 2 out and backs to a pond that also has some good elevation change. My first training session where I covered marathon distance. My legs felt great, but my feet were not too happy. The trail is extremely rocky. I just kept remembering that Kickboxer scene where he is kicking that tree and hoping that something similar was going on for my feet. |

Thursday - #718 - 2 miles Friday - #719 - 2 miles Saturday - #720 - 2 miles Sunday - #721 - 2 miles Monday - #722 - 2 miles Tuesday - #723 - 2 miles very fast at 11PM because I didn't have time for what I had initially planned on for speed work Wednesday - #724 - 2 miles easy Very busy for the last week. Haven't had a good opportunity to swim or bike since my last triathlon, which is kind of bumming me out. Too many long days, short work trips, customer outings, and personal things going on. Back at it tonight I hope. |
