#1006- 2 mi

#1007- 50 mi Burning River 50 Mile Endurance Run. I had a good race. I was surprised when I finished 3rd male Overall. The heat got to me and I had some energy issues later in the race, but I feel like I executed well. I put up a race report: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

#1008- 2 mi recovery, easily my most comfortable day after post race run after doing marathon or more distance the day prior during the streak. It makes me happy that my fitness is at this point, but I feel like I should have pushed a bit harder during the race considering.

Great job on the race and real great finish too. Loved the RR. You are going to do great on your upcoming 100 miler.

Monday - #729 - 2 miles easy
Tuesday - #730 - 3.5 miles of speed work on the treadmill at lunch to celebrate 2 straight years!
Wednesday - #731 - 2.6 miles
Thursday - #732 - 2 miles while feeling very seasick *and* hungover. Not a fun run.
Friday - #733 - 3 miles easy

I was honestly shocked when I made it through 30 days straight, and then even more shocked when I got to 100 days. 2 years is hard to believe at this point. I certainly wasn't going to let it go before 2 years once I got to a certain point. I am not planning on stopping anytime soon, but I would feel more at peace with it now if I should decide to do so in the future. The only thing that was going to prevent me from making 2 years was going to be a bad injury...which I avoided, thankfully!

Great job on the two years, it gets tougher to let it go the longer you are streaking.

On another note, I made my second sky dive today with just a parachute on my back in less than two weeks. This is even more addicting than running. Wish I would've started this as a younger man, but it is still a riot.

Congrats. For me, the streak takes out the factor of needing self-discipline, I know I'm running one way or another, so I don't think much, I just do it. I like not having to think, its easier. If I did stop, I'd probably just start another. But like you, I'd probably only stop for a significant injury or a major life issue.

Congrats again though, 2 years is a long time, I'm sure you needed some mental toughness to get through some of those runs (like #732)

#1011-8.5 mi
#1012- 7 mi
#1013- 11 mi trail
#1014- 7 mi

Took only a few days to recover. I was pretty shocked. Next week I have a 30 mile run planned with 8-9k of elevation gain. 2 months to the race. I want to push myself and be as strong as possible, but on the flip side I don't want to injure myself in these last few weeks. Should be interesting.

#1015- 6.2 mi
#1016- 13.1 mi trail
#1017- 7 mi

#1018- 28.2 mi trail 7300+ ft gain. Ran earlier than usual. Benefits were that it was cooler, the sky changing with the sunrise was really nice, and there were little patches of cloud/fog that looked nice off the side of the mountain. Drawbacks were that it was early, and I like sleep. Also I ran into a bear on the trail, it was actually just off the side, but we scared each other, I thought it was a deer at first and probably jumped two feet in the air when I realized it was a bear. I was coming over a small hill and I guess it didn't hear me coming. It bounded off into the woods, but was way too close for comfort. Later in the day when it gets hot they are usually not up and about.

#1019- 3.1 mi recover. I was going to run more but I started getting a bit of tendon pain in my knee on my long run and it was a bit stiff today. Hopefully it works itself out.

BOOM!!! Congratulations!

Hadn't really planned on it so soon, but I guess this is happening:

#1: 2.2
#2: 1.2
#3: 1.3
#4: 1.1
#5: 3.0
#6: 1.5
#7: 2.0
#8: 1.5

My ankle is still stiff, but the doctor said I shouldn't count on being 100% until March. I can't stress how important yoga has become since they discharged me from physical therapy. At least once each session, I have to laugh at what the lady on the screen thinks I'm going to be able to do, but I can't argue with the strength, balance, and flexibility I've regained.

In just a few days, it's already stopped being "will I run today?" and become "when will I run today?".

Man, is it good to be back.

Monday - #743 - 2 miles after 13.5 mile bike
Tuesday - #744 - 2 miles

Last Wednesday night tri of the summer tomorrow night. This is the first one I'm doing where I haven't done another race 3-4 days prior so I am hoping I feel much better on the hilly run course and can improve my time.

Wednesday - #745 - 2 miles...a very disappointing evening, as this should have been 3.1 miles in the last leg of my last Wednesday night triathlon of the summer. I didn't have the best swim in the world by 100 pace, but I was second out of the water from my wave. I got my wetsuit off as fast as I ever have and was off on the bike to chase the guy in front of me. I noticed very quickly that my rear tire was flat, which meant the race was essentially over for me as far as time goes (it was only a sprint). I was still only 100 yards out of transition, so I walked my bike over to the support tent where they put in a new tube for me but pointed out a spot where my tire was warped. I asked if I should even try going back out, and they said it was up to me. I didn't have anything to do for the next 90 minutes before they would open transition anyways, so I hopped back on the bike and didn't even make it a tenth of a mile before the tire was flat again, so my night was over. I put my bike to the side and walked over to transition where they wouldn't even let me in to get my shoes. I nearly took the volunteer's head off when she told me that. I asked her to go get my shoes for me, which she thankfully did, so I could at least get my daily run out of the way while the triathlon was still going on.

Frustrating evening.

Good to have you back.

I've heard alot of good things about yoga, but I cant really see it working for me. I can see doing some of the exercises, but the meditation and spiritual side of it doesn't mesh with my psychology.

There is only so much you could have done, at least it wasn't an A race. I'd be frustrated too though.

#1020- 7.2 mi
#1021- 2 early miles, did an overnight canoeing trip and had to head out first thing
#1022- 10 mi
#1023- 10 mi
#1024- 6.2 mi
#1025- 30 mi, 6300 ft gain. A bit less elevation than I wanted, but I took it easy since I still have some soreness in my knee. The run was good and my knee held up and didn't get worse. I didn't eat nearly enough, but my legs were pretty fresh right up to the end. Too many bears though. I don't make enough noise as I'm going along the trail and it is so rocky that I can't look up much. At one point I ran one up a tree before I realized it was there, I must have come within 10 feet of it, since the tree it went up was only 5 feet or so from the trail and the bear was only a few feet off the ground as I passed. I probably could have jumped and grabbed one of its legs. At another point, about 15 feet in front of me, a cub came stumbling out of the brush thinking I was its mother. It took off as soon as it saw me. For about 1/2 a second, I thought, aww...that was cute. Then I got super paranoid that I was going to get tackled by momma. I did find her about 50 feet up the trail with another cub. I had to back off awhile and wait until they cleared out. I had 4 encounters on yesterdays run alone. People here get all up in arms about bear hunts (one is coming up), but they are everywhere right now. About 3 other times I had someone tell me that they just passed a bear on the trail I was heading down. So in short, good run, too many bears.

Oh, and one other thing, I forgot to put on my body glide and had no anti-chafe protection. I was walking funny all night.

Bears on my running route is not something I have even remotely considered.

Got my bike fixed with a new tire today. Went out for a ride this evening to make up for yesterday. Got about 5 miles in and hit a rock and blew the front tire this time (yesterday was the back tire). Thankfully I had my phone so I could call someone to pick me up because I was 5 miles out in bike shoes.
