#759- 3 mi
#760- 2 mi
#761- 2 mi

#762- 50.2 miles. JFK 50 Mile.

Finished in 8:48. Body held up, and I had a good time. I'll get a race report up soon.

#763- 2 mi. I'm not sure if this was my most painful post race run, but it was up there.

Great race Rich!

Day #5 without running. I have been able to walk Brewer. Should be back to running by end of the week.

Thanks! And good to hear your recovery is going well. Hope to see you streaking soon.

#764- 2 mi.

Much easier than yesterday.

I had to work standing all day yesterday, and my ankle, which was fine during the race and the following morning run, and 6 hours into my shift it started acting up out of nowhere. I had a decent amount of swelling, and iced it all last night. Woke up this morning and it was better, and now it barely huts. It was the weirdest thing. The knee is the same, just tender in that one spot, and only bothered me a bit on the hills during the race. I plan to take the next month very easy and get myself all healed up. My tentative plan for next year is to keep a decent swim/bike base while training for Boston. Probably 3-4 hours per week on the bike with good intensity, and 3 hours for 3 swims/week in the pool. The rest will be as much running as I can handle.

After Boston, I'd like to test myself with the NJ state triathlon, which was my first that I did in 2012 and see my improvement. I'd also like to fit in a 70.3 sometime next year too. I am really feeling the urge to look for a 100 mile ultra to try. Not sure where it would fit in, but definitely after Boston. The other races are negotiable.

Got my race report posted. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

Originally posted by MSU_Brad Friday my run was in Annapolis right next to the Naval Academy, which was really cool. Wished I could have run on campus with the plebes, but didn't have my ID with me as I was running. Went back to do the walking tour later that day which was awesome. Ran in College Park on Saturday.

Going to finally get the courage up and start doing outdoor running this year in the winter. Went to one running store yesterday looking for the Brooks Ghost Gore Tex version, but they weren't stocked yet. Checking another tonight. Probably going to buy a fat tire mountain bike to do some winter riding too.

Annapolis has a great running community and the town itself is an excellent place to put in some miles.

#279 - 6.2 at a local turkey trot. I got in under an hour and the race swag was a pretty sweet 1/4 zip pullover, so I'll call it a win.
#280 - 2.4
#281 - 4.1

Rich nice job on your JFK 50 miler, you know you are going to do a 100 miler so just give in and sign up.

Lumberdad glad you are feeling better and that you should be back to running soon.

I have a 50k coming up in just over 3 weeks, the 21st of December in southern Ohio. Hope the weather is not too bad that day.

I hope everyone has a very Happy Thanksgiving.

#765- 2 mi
#766- 2 mi
#767- 3 mi - ran the last mile in 7:30 just to feel if I "had my legs back" and felt good. I will force myself to run a max for 40 mpw over the following 3 weeks and take an official "off season" to lick my wounds.

As far as the 100 miler. It is pretty inevitable, the seed is planted and I want to do it. I've already been looking at a few, and am pretty set on one. I'm looking over my work schedule and other commitments before I pull the trigger, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to go for it.

Hope everyone had a great holiday.

I'm just starting a new cycle with TrainerRoad, but hoping to keep my run volume somewhat up during it. About a week in and so far so good.

Hope everyone had a great holiday. I loved having a little bit of down time.

Better you than me. You'll be writing your essay for Barkley before you know it. Check out "Run Gently Out There" by John Morelock. It's musings about trail running and ultra-distances. It helped me understand the allure of running really, really long distances; it didn't convince me to try running really, really long distances, but that's more about me than about the book. I'm pretty sure it's columns that he wrote for one publication or another, which means that the chapters are short and it's good for your throne-room.

#285 - 3.2
#286 - 1.2
#287 - 3.3

My back was sore, so I cut it short yesterday. I didn't realize until just now that yesterday's run included my 1000th Charity Mile for this streak. I keep the meter running for warmups and cooldowns, so Charity Miles are little inflated; I've run about 900 "actual" miles since February.

Monday - #491 - 2 miles

Didn't get much sleep Sunday night going into Monday morning, felt out of it all day, so I held off doing anything longer or adding any other workouts. Spent the evening on the couch after my short run.

Just picked up a fat tire mountain bike for some winter riding!!!

#772- 4 mi

Still taking it easy. Most of my body wants to run more. My legs feel great every time I get done. I have a few tendon issues still, knee, and still some ankle pain. Just little nagging things that I don't even feel once I get warmed up, but it annoys me that it is still there. I want to get back to 100% so I can get back to running lots.

I decided to enter the Leadville 100 lottery. It seems a bit insane to consider this race as my first 100, but I really just want to go all in and test my limits. My 2 IMs and the 50 miler were challenging, but I didn't feel like I got anywhere near my limit. Especially the 50 miler. I don't want to say it was easy, but I felt just about fully recovered within a week (much better recovery than my marathon actually) and at no point during the race did I feel like I needed to stop, or even really slow down. I pretty much ran even splits for most of the race besides an extra minute or so at the aid stations.

I realize a 100 mile mountain ultra is a completely different deal. It totally freaks me out, but in a good way. With 9+ months or so to go, and a decent base, I am actually less concerned with the distance and the elevation gain than I am with the elevation period. I am a sea level guy and will get a week at most to acclimate (I usually see 2 weeks recommended). I really really hope I get into Leadville, but if I don't there are other tough 100 milers out there and next year I will be running one of them (I have a few backups chosen). I have 3 more weeks of planned recovery, then I will start a nice build with very limited intensity and try to get up to some consistent higher mileage.

Last year I hit 75 mpw doing a Pfitzinger type plan and my body felt great. This year I wanted to try to increase my high end speed and did more of a Hansons approach and I think the harder intervals and tempo runs coming off my highest volume training ever after the IM is what beat me up a bit. I will run more of a Pfitzinger plan next year but modify it to work hard on overall strength and endurance. Lots of long slow distance and I will also start tracking my weekly elevation gain/loss as much as possible.

I really want to keep some swim/bike in the mix and maybe even this year I will do a bit of weight training, but I don't have much of a plan yet with this. I think it will be good though to have something to balance all of the running though.

It feels great to be in the offseason and not have any burnout whatsoever. I am really just having to hold myself back on a daily basis. I should just tell myself to chill out and enjoy the recovery time. I am very eager though to jump in and take on this new challenge, and hope to continue streaking through it all!

It sounds to me like you have a sound plan.  I am always impressed by you and your runs and your commitment.  You have been an inspiration to me and hopefully others.  I have no doubt in my mind that if you set this goal you will accomplish it.

I'd wish you good luck, but luck has nothing to do with it - train hard, listen to your body and it will take it to where you want it to be.  But good luck anyways!

#291 - Friday - 3.6
#292 - Saturday - 3.8
#293 - Sunday - 3.25
#294 - Monday - 1.24
#295 - Tuesday - 1.00

I spent most of last week at the hospital with my mom, and getting out to run was a welcome respite. Now that I'm back in my real life, a wicked cold and a rehabbing puppy are limiting my miles. I'm hoping to get out for #295b tonight.

Thanks for the good wishes! I don't see what I do as that inspirational, its just something I enjoy. I'm happy to be able to come here and share a bit, and love to hear what everyone else is up to also. I don't really know anyone who does this sort of thing, and my wife (though streaking on her own at 300+ days) doesn't want to hear about training and races and so on, so its nice to have a small outlet and a group of like minded people who share the same interest.

I hope all is well with the family (both your mom and the puppy). Glad you kept the streak going through it...it's a great mental break in those situations.

Mike - welcome to the madness. Best of luck wit your streak! For the first couple of months, I found it very helpful to remember to post in here almost daily, which was a motivating factor to keep myself going. After a while, the run is second nature...I don't complain about going to go do it anymore. I complain when I don't have the time I really want to do it!
