REVOLUTION3 Triathlon
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 5h 24m 26s
Overall Rank = 150/462
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 32/93
Pre-race routine:

Woke at 530 (Transition closed at 730, so I had time to dress, park and set up), 2 servings of Mudd, 16oz of coffee. Walked 1/4 to 1/2 mile to the swim start and sat in the grass for a spell. Had a gel (with caffine) about 15 minutes before we waded into the water for start. Forgot Garmin 310 at home so I raced with my handy Polar HRM.
Event warmup:

None, maybe the walk to the start
Swim
  • 38m 6s
  • 1931 meters
  • 01m 58s / 100 meters
Comments:

Always tough for me to settle down when I start the race. Seems my heart rate goes through the roof. Took me about 1/2 to 2/3 of the swim to calm down and find my groove.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure how I can settle down much. I need to work on pacing. I could have swam faster.
Transition 1
  • 02m 52s
Comments:

I run with my shoes on... athlete stopped in front of me to mount his bike. I rear ended him.

I rode with socks on which to additional time in T1 to put on. I didn't even ride with socks during the training or century rides.
What would you do differently?:

Aquire cycling shoes that are geared for triathlons and pre-clipped into the pedals.
Bike
  • 2h 44m 19s
  • 56 miles
  • 20.45 mile/hr
Comments:

Had one water bottle ejction one a rough patch of road. had to return to get it as it had 1/3 my nutrition in the bottle.
What would you do differently?:

Better water bottle - maybe use a rubber band?
Transition 2
  • 02m 25s
Comments:

I normally dont ride with socks on, so I took the socks off and put compression socks on.
What would you do differently?:

Not sure...
Run
  • 1h 56m 44s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 55s  min/mile
Comments:

I ran at a High Heart Rate in order to try to get to the finish line by 2pm (so my son and sister could see me finish). I was up near and eventually into the LT zone.
What would you do differently?:

Train better for the run so I can better maintain this pace.
Post race
Warm down:

walked around the event. Post race food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Bike and run - those seem to be limiters

Event comments:

This was my first 70.3 and greatly enjoyed racing with my fellow mojo'rs.
