Sounds like shipping would be $.  I bought a KK fluid trainer off of Craigslist 40% off new with the front tire block & CPU.  I live in a small city area but there are lot of active people around here (coastal FL).

...buy a new one or find a used one local. Skip the expensive eBay shipping. Either one will last. KK Fluids are bomber and well worth the $. Parts are easy to buy/replace from KK, and their customer service/warranty is STELLAR! I have 2 KK Fluid trainers for my wife and I. Absolutely love them. One was BNIB, the other we bought off a local on-line classifieds. -j

I bought my fluid 2 off of craigslist and used it for 2 years before it began to leak.  Cycleops has a great warranty/repair department.  They replaced the entire trainer portion for about $90.  That $90 plus the amount I paid on craigslist was still less than buying one new.

I always keep my eye on craigslist - there was a fluid 2 a few months back for $75.  Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough to get that deal.

I got my fluid2 and riser block off of CL for $120.00.  It was basically brand new as the guy bought it for his girlfirend who subsequently used it about 5 times before they broke up and she left it at his place where it sat for the next 6 months.  My gain :-)

the fluid 2 is a tank, it'd be tough for a previous owner to mess one up unless they really put some work into it.

Bought an older Cycleops on ebay when I first started (~7yrs ago).  After a year or 2, the fluid began to leak (was a known problem with the early models.  Cycleops sent me a new resistance unit within days of describing my problem to them.  Unit has worked perfectly since then.  Especially if it is a more recent vintage, I would be comfortable buying off ebay from a seller I thought appeared trustful.

they're pretty sturdy and will last many years.  the Fluid2, not the original Fluid.

I looked for months on ebay and craig's list and couldn't find a worthy deal.  Ended up finding a new KK Road Machine on deep discount on cyber monday last year and sent the link to my wife who got it for me for xmas.    it's been a terrific tool for those cold dark winter mornings.

so yes- if you can find a good deal on a used Fluid2... then buy it.  if not, there will be some good sales soon.  Winter is upon us and they become a commodity item.

I got a very barely used Cycleops Magneto off some girl on Craigslist a year and a half ago and haven't had one issue with it. Saved about $50 or so. It's not a fluid-filled one, so I don't worry about leaks.

nolehypothesis - 2012-10-04 10:22 AM The last three posts make me feel a little more comfortable going the ebay route. Thanks. Just have to find the right deal now.

Probably the worst time of year to be looking for a 'deal' on a trainer on ebay.  Everyone else is thinking the same thing you are right now and I've been surprised at what people will pay.  Take a close look at the photos, and watch those shipping costs.  Good luck- you might score a great deal.

I've probably put 2,500 hours on my Fluid 2 in the past 5 years and it's as good today as it was the day I bought it.  I bought mine new but figure a used one of a similar age will be  smart buy.  If you don't mind the shipping charge then go ebay.

I bought a Cycleops Fluid 2 off ebay.  After about 4 years it started to leak.  I called them up and even told them it was that old and that I had bought it off ebay (albeit new, not used).  They replaced the resistance unit for free, I just had to pay to have it shipped to them.
