Swim
Comments: My swimming training definitely fell off at the end of the season. I had not swam in a month prior to the race so I was sort of just winging the swim. My goal was just to get through in about a half hour, so I just met that goal. I went way off course and my sighting was awful. What would you do differently?: Clearly train more. I got lazy. I do need to practice opening water swimming a bit more though to get more confident with my sighting. Transition 1
Comments: I had to take extra time to put on my tri-top. I don't wear it during the swim because it has pockets in the back that hold water. My bike was near the end of the rack so it was pretty easy to find. I was actually surprised to find a good amount of bikes still left in transition, despite being one of the last waves to start. Bike
Comments: People didn't do too well staying on the right and passing on the left, so there were a few times I had to pass on the right and get slowed down due to people riding 2 or 3 abreast. Overall the bike course was great with a lot of sights and monuments to enjoy! I tried to go out the same pace I finished. I didn't drink enough. I don't like the way my bike hydration is set up because it's too hard to reach. Transition 2
Run
Comments: I love passing people on the run. It gives me so much confidence and the energy to push harder. I started off around a 7 minute mile to get my running legs back. I took a gatorade and water at each aid station to stay cool and took in 2 gels at the mile and 4 mile marks. I was happy to be one of the fastest runners on the course. If only I could get my bike up to speed with my run. What would you do differently?: More bike/run bricks would enable me to push harder on the bike and be more comfortable on the run segment afterwards. Right now I ride too conservatively and run too aggressively because I have too much energy left. I guess it's better than burning out on the bike and having nothing left for the run. Post race
