Eagleman was my first HIM last year, had a blast despite the soul crushing heat on the run! Can't wait to do it again!

Who's in?

It will be my first HIM. I am pumped yet fearful at the same time. It's keeping me motivated for the winter. How was the swim? Any recommendations on where to Lodge?

The swim last year was a wetsuit swim, although most year's it hasn't been. Had a nice push from the current on the first half of the swim last year too. It's good swim course, simple rectangle. The only thing you have to watch is the current can push you off course so it's wise to sight often.

There seems to be a fair amount of lodging within 15-20 miles of the race site. If you want to stay in Cambridge, close to the start you might find it more challenging as the nearby rooms book up quickly.

It was my first "complete" HIM last summer as well, having done the Pocono Bike/Run 69.1 the year prior.

It will likely be a hot run, I found the bike to go pretty fast, and may have overdone it there, still trying to figure the pacing thing.  The flat course though makes for good opportunity to smooth out the power though.

I'm signed up again, want to better my time over last year.  So far I have very few races I've done year to year.

Just registered. This will be my first HIM, and I'm super-pumped, although also pretty intimidated. After the $300 entry fee I know there's no turning back. My biggest concern right now is my wife is due to have our second baby 20 days after the race...fingers crossed that she won't go into labor halfway through the bike

Look forward to hearing about everyone's training.

I am starting to build up mileage on run and bike. Long run now is 8 miles, 18 -20 total run miles a week.  Long Bike is 30 miles averaging about 30-45 bike miles a week. Not going to focus on swimming for at least 2 more weeks. 6 months is going to go by quick. Starting to get pumped!!!

I just noticed Eagleman is now sold out and there are only a few charity slots left. Glad I'm in!

Next year will be my first time to race at Eagleman. I've heard a lot about the course and am looking forward to the race. We live and train in the heat- Texas. I can't wait to see if it is as "hot" as everyone says it is compared to our summers!

Last year the temp was mid 90's. The run is where it really hits you, no shade anywhere, full sun for all 13.1 miles. If you are used to that, from training in Texas, you will probably handle better than most. It is a great race, you will be glad you did it. Typically a great pro field too.

I raced Eagleman for the first time last year and it was a wild/awesome time. I've raced roughly 10 HIMs and 2 IMs in the northeast, so this was a completely different experience. I had a weak day, but I loved the race and looking forward to it this year.

Training is starting to ramp up for me. I am going to spend a lot of time on the trainer to prepare for those FLAT roads! Need to drop a couple holiday pounds too.....

Hope everyone stays healthy and trains strong. Paul

It looks like rooms are pretty booked up in Cambridge and Easton. I booked at the Days Inn in Seaford. Still a few rooms there.

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you are all enjoying some cold weather running/riding. Quick cold weather riding question. I moved to Howard County from Hawaii 5 months ago (don't ask). This is my first cold weather riding season. Like everyone, I do most of my time on an indoor trainer. However, the roads around here have been dry and the skies clear. My problem is that I have not figured out a good way to keep my toes relatively warm after about 1 hour. I ordered a full booty and am trying that but wanted to get any advice for you about riding in temps between 32-45 degrees F from the group. I am sure that I will miss these days at mile 6 of the run in June when it is in the 90's. Good luck and thanks.

You are on the right path with the booties. I would also suggeset picking up a nice pair of XC skiing socks. I live in NH and definitely struggle in the cold on my bike. Even with booties and socks I max out at at/around 2 hours.

Not ideal, but if you have a road bike you can hit the roads for part of the ride and then come home and jump on the "drainer".

Best of luck!

I'm in for the Aquabike.  It's my first multisport event, and I'm taking the training very seriously.

Not yet. Hope to get a half marathon on the schedule in Spring. Did Rock and Roll USA and Lehigh Valley Half last year leading up to Eagleman. Getting back from injury, 4 months off from running. Taking it slow, will pick up the frequency and volume in a couple more weeks. Right now just trying to get over this cold.....

I'm looking at a half marathon in March, haven't done an open half in a couple years, so I want to re-calibrate that.

But, I seem to have a rather chronic glute/hip thing going on.  Kind of a tendonitis-like soreness after running, but it's been getting worse; easier to happen, and sticks around longer.

Took two weeks off from running (but not cycling or swimming) and it felt pretty good.  Ran 5 miles yesterday at an easy pace, and yesterday afternoon and today it's all back.  At least I know that running is the problem.  Grrr.

Might have to take more time off, and get back to PT.

I was thinking about the Fredricksburg Marine Corps HM on May 19th, but I'm not sure if it's too close to the race. My training plan has me doing a 2 hour run the following week, so I figure I could probably substitute if I don't push too hard (I usually do about 1:45 on a HM). It looks like a fun race.

Hey everyone! It's my first HIM, so I'm looking forward to it a lot. I was a swimmer in high school and college, and ran a lot in the army, so I'm fortunate to start with a strong base. Not sure about the bike, though.. That should be a real challenge!

To the question about half marathons in March:  You could do the Ceaser Rodney half marathon in Wilmington DE on 17 March 2013.  This is the 50th anniversary of this event and I am planning on doing this race.

http://www.halfmarathons.net/usa_half_marathons_delaware_caesar_rodney_half_marathon.html

This will be my first half iron man (HIM) and I am looking for warmup events before this one.  I was thinking about the Black Bear Olympic triathlon on 19 May.

Ill be there.. I have my bike up to where it needs to be for February... My run suffered at the end of last season with a hip injury. So I'm at about 6 miles and in an indoor BRic I was great for an hour bike and 5k strong..

So we'll see..

Iam doing Devilman half lite Asa warm up in may. Pawling sprint the week before, because I can't get out of it..
