Pre-race routine:

Got to Las Vegas, spent a few hours at the Expo. Fun expo, great equipment, nutrition, and event booths.

Saturday night caught Cheap Trick and Aerosmith at the MGM Grand, Aerosmith put on a great show. Had a couple drinks wandered back to the hotel around 2am.
Event warmup:

Walked down to start line, listed to the Journey Experience, chatted with some friends, made my way to Corral 6.
Run
  • 1h 57m 51s

  • 08m  min/mile
Comments:

Windy on the course. Plan was to run first 10 miles between 8:40 and 8:50, and the last three at anything under 9:00, finish around 1:53. 10 mile training run had been at 8:38. Felt fatigued compared to training around mile 9 and the last few miles were off pace. Wasn't well rested to start the race, just due to travel and the inevitable amount of walking around Vegas.

Still, only my 2nd half marathon, so pretty happy to be under 2 hours.
What would you do differently?:

Rest before the race if I am going to hit my goal time, or just run in the middle of the pack with the Elvis impersonators and folks in the Spiderman Lycra suits.
Post race
Warm down:

Grabbed some chocolate milk and some photos, cleaned up and waited for my buddies to come in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Travel, lack of sleep.

Event comments:

Kudos to Competitor group for putting on a great race and fixing all the logistic problems they had in 2011. Everything ran smooth, on time, well-organized, and excellent corral control.

Congrats on breaking the 2-hour mark! I had some friends who ran this race and they said that the wind was pretty brutal.

Congrats on your sub-2 finish.  Your situation sounds much like many of ours - felt sluggish due to a late afternoon start and not knowing what to do with yourself for hours before a race.
