Renegade Racing is  looking at potentially restarting in Spring of 2014, but nothing is set in stone. Not looking good at this point. I will miss this event, and the crazy descents on those sh..tty roads.

You are in the minority to be missing M3. I have done it twice and would have taken my business elsewhere this year.

Really? I have done it twice too, and dug it both times even though the run was pretty disorganized last year... and the water bottle exchange at the end of the descent was a strange idea... but from the difficulty of the course perspective M3 is pretty much unmatched in Southern Cali. M3 can be a murderous race for sure if the weather does not cooperate.

Was looking forward to doing the long course this year, but I guess that this fall's schedule is going to have to consist of Nautica and IMAZ.

My reasons for not returning were with the choice of road course , late start times for the OLY wave and grossly inaccurate run course measurement. The long bike course has horribly rutted and damaged pavement on the 2 loop section between templin and Lake pyramid . It is in terrible shape, dangerous with deep cracks and grooves . Imagine going down 1000ft on a 6% grade with full on brakes trying to navigate a safe path through the rutted and cracked pavement.
It gets hot in Castaic during the day , 90F is common in October. The OLY start was a needless 90 mins after Long distance . So after exiting transition warm up in the lake with the wetsuit and sit around for 90 mins before you can start your race. And because of this late start do not get on your bike until after 9am and have to race longer in the heat of the day. This was brought up to RD during a pre ride and the concerns about the later start time were dismissed.

Yes, all of this is true. The roads are bad, the inclusion of the sprint event shafted the Oly racers, and adding 0.3 miles to the 10k for the second year in a row was just mind boggling. The race should have been just the sprint and oly - that'd take care of the majority of the issues. Hopefully they will make these chnages in 2014.

If you like them fast and furious (sprint)
Here are two short sprints @ Castaic Lake July 9th & Sept 7th
You can really hammer this course on the bike .
