Subject: Red Rock Worth It?

Hi!!

Just looking for some input.  I was going to rent a bike from Vegas Cyclery and ride the Red Rock loop but then I looked at taxi costs and wondered if it's really worth it for a 35$ cab ride each way from the strip and the 55$ rental?

As much as I'd love to get out on a bike outside while I'm away - I wasn't sure for my current fitness level (spin class only) if 120$ was worth spending for that loop....

Any input would be appreciated!!!

Thanks so much!

Stef

Hey Stef,

When are you coming out?

You know the "is it worth it" question is tough. Yes Red Rock is a fun and challenging ride, but I wouldn't spend that on a ride , especially when I didn't know the area. Here is a url for a bike tour company here in Vegas ( I have no affiliation) it looks like their prices are about the same as what you would spend for a taxi and bike rental. A tour might end up being more fun

When are you coming, how long will you be here, are you looking to do anything else??  There are a lot of other factors to consider, but I would recommend visiting Red Rock on foot and doing a trail run or a hike.

Thank you! I'm only in town for 5 days at the end of next week - and hopefully when I get home I can get out on my bike.

I figured I'd just run while I'm there and ride when I get home.

Thanks again!!!

You could ride a bus (seriously).  They all have bike racks in front.

$8 for the whole day.

If you want folks to run with, there are tons of groups that run in the am.  There are also trial groups to run in the evening during the week.  Check out stores like Red Rock Running and Village Runner if you want to run with a group.  Various paces and distances.  Enjoy Vegas.  You are coming at one of the best times of the year!!!!!

Thank you!!! I'll look into groups - I'm two hours off here - so I never really get on "Vegas Time" which makes life interesting but I will do that!!

I did look at the busses - I just didn't see a route that went close but I'll have a better look when I get there!  Thank you all so much!!!

Another thought is that it's only 4.3 miles from Las Vegas Cyclery to Desert Foothills and Charleston, a very popular starting points.  Don't know how much you are wanting to ride.

That parking lot to Blue Diamond highway and back is 30 miles, and add 10 miles if you want to add the loop.

48.6 miles gets you the whole experience from Las Vegas Cyclery and back.

Go to Google maps and then get directions from "Las Vegas Cyclery, 10575 Discovery Drive, Spring Valley, NV 89147" to "desert foothills & charleston las vegas nv."

Make sure to change it to Bike directions.  It uses the 215 Beltway trail so you get to experience yet another cool Vegas cycle route.

Never mind, you've done a Half Ironman.  Just bike there and back from LV Cyclery

Here I created a map for you

http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/view/179239020

Take away 20 miles or so if you just go to the loop, do the loop, and back.

Red Red Loop is great, but I suggest riding in the Lake Mead area on the east side. Even better riding. :-)

I guess the question is now since this thread was from last march, did you ride the loop or opt out?
