Has anybody tried this yet?

I like that it's not hub-based, has cadence built in, etc.  I'm told a local tri coach is testing it out, but wondered if anybody else had any experience with it.

Funny, I was just looking at those. Half as much as a Quark and more versatile than only having one wheel with it on.

I have my bike in getting a Quarq put on right now.  They were trying to convince me to go with this one and said the Scott pro team has been using it and loves it.  I feel like any inconsistencies in my pedal stroke would be  more pronounced than in a pro's pedal stroke.

DCRainmaker didn't have a very favourable review on it, so I decided to hold off on getting it and stuck with a Quarq.

Yeah, DC Rainmaker's review shed a lot of light into the inconsistancies when you only measure power from one side and simply try to double it.  It's not to say that they can't make further adjustments to the algorithms and make it better...but just realize that Stages is providing power outputs in a very different way than Quarq, SRM, and Powertap.

This is one of those products where it's a bit sketchy to be a first adopter.  Then again though, it really all depends on what your expectations of a power meter is at a given price point.  If you're the type that's not super picky about the absolute accuracy and precision of a power meter...something like the PowerCal might be a much cheaper option for you right now.

Just a note, I've had a Quarq on my B12 for three years or so now. LOVE IT!

HOLY COW Thank you!

I've been looking for "something" to use on my road bike that I'm only interested in using for century rides and buddy rides and whatnot like that. Read a whole lot of steady state with only occasional sprints and whatnot.

Don't like powertap as I've got a set of trainer tires on an $80 wheelset to use on the rollers, got training wheels for outside and have 60/60 and 90/60 wheelsets for racing/centuries so the powertap is not all that interesting. Don't really want to spend the money on another Quarq.

If I want to do intervals and such, I'll use the quarq bike but if I'm just out "2 hours, rolling hills" that PowerCal looks like exactly the thing, it's close enough.

Nice to know!  I'm sure I'll love it, I can't wait to have it back.
