Subject: Once upon a time athlete
Hello everyone. I have been reading the threads and figured it was time to quit the stalking/lurking.

Once upon a time I was very athletic (a competitive bodybuilder, loved basketball, football, racket ball, running, and biking). Through some tragedies in my life and focusing on my career (instead of my health) I lost the athlete. +100lbs and 10 years later I had my first brush with mortality (12/2011). I decided then and there that I would find that athlete and stick around for as long as I could (Living Life, Loving Life, and Being Healthy).

I changed the way i was eating December 2011, I ran my first 5k in 11 years Spring 2012, I completed 3 obstacle course races Summer of 2012. Got on a road bike for the first time in 12 years Fall 2012. Winter of 2012 I signed up for my First Triathlon (Sprint in May 2013).

And now you know my story :-). I could really use your advice/guidance/experience so I don't die out there.

A triathlete in the making!

Hi and welcome to BT! Congrats on the changes you have made to your life so far, keep up the excellent work! I don't know as you ever lose the athelete in you, sounds like he (I figure around here I have about a 70% chance of getting the gender right. ) just took a long nap. Lots of excellent resources on BT so jump right in and enjoy the ride.

@trinnas :-) thank you! Yes, I am of the 70% lol. My athlete must be in some kind of comic book cryogenic hibernation. Can't wait for him to wake up :-). Before May would be nice.

Yea - dying is bad... no dying aloud.  But it seems that you have plenty of athletic skill just wanting to be dusted off.  BT is a great site and will really help you get ready for that first tri coming up in May.  With the work you have already done in changing yourself and your habits, it sounds like you are going to crush it.

One suggestion - give some thought to joining one of the mentor groups that should be starting up again this week (check it out in the forum section).  The group will hold you accountible and you'll be able to get advice on how to improve your s/b/r skills.

Glad to have you!
