Subject: I think Clydesdale days are behind me....for good.

Well folks when I started this crazy journey in January of 2012 tipping the scales at 260.0 my original goal was to do some triathlons and hopefully shed 40 pounds to get to 220.  I thought I would be a Clyde forever, especially considering at the time the cutoff was 200 lbs.

Flash forward to April and I am suddenly at 219, and I'm finding out that they are raising the Clyde limit to 220.  The weight has come off so quickly I decide to ride it out and just see how far this thing will go.

Got down to the 200 - 205 range and flat out hit a wall.  I would dip down below 200 for a day or so, but ultimately get back to 205.  Suddenly 200 became my new number.  I had to get below that.  I fought hard for about 4 months now.  Adopted dietary changes, rededicated myself to dietary discipline, and of course increased training volume as the season approaches.  This morning I weight 197.8 which is the lowest I have been in 19 years.  I feel great and look decent.  And now the Clydesdale division is behind me whether under the old school or new school definition.

Thanks for all the support from those on this site and my friends and family.  It can be done, if that is your goal, all it takes is a little focus.

Congrats! My journey was similar, being "big boned" just always thought I'd be over 2 bills. Then I actually got serious, and have been in the 180s for a few weeks now. Running is much easier, isn't it?

Yes it is, and so is biking.  I've seen pace and speed increases across the board as I dropped that "child" I'd been carrying on my back.

Don,

Congratulations. We have a similar story. In January 2012, I weighed in at 255. I lost 50 pounds by July. I did weight training, crossfit, Krav Maga, and running. I ran a 5k, 10k, HM, Tough Mudder (12 mi), and several 5k length mud runs by November 2012. The lowest I weighed was 203. Unlike you, I've slipped a bit and now I'm back to 225, so I'll be a Clyde a bit longer.

Keep with it and let us know how you're doing.

Jeff

Don,

Huge congrats on the weight loss! We both lost similar amounts of weight. I started at 265lbs and now weigh 196.5lbs. It felt great not being a clyde anymore but my heart will always be there as I will never forget where I started. You can keep the weight off and maintain your new lifestyle, I know I have and its been 2 years of solid weight loss with no re-gain of weight. Great job trimming down and good luck this season with your racing. I am sure your story will continue to inspire others here on BT.

Nice job!

Similar story for me from 275 down to now 195 (plus minus 3 lbs).

Not sure if I can go any lower, supposedly my BF is between 8% and 11% (I am 6'6")

LOL, I used to tell my wife "it's so much easier climbing hills without carrying the equivalent of a medium sized German Shepherd"

Ah yes... the only club where everyone dreams of getting expelled.  Smile

That little "1" is a magic digit, ain't it?!?   I remember the last time I got my weight down to 199 -- it was nearly 17 years ago after a summer of heavy duty biking. Haven't seen it since.  Since starting triathlon I've gone from 267 to 237, hoping to hit 219 this year and 199 next year.  You guys are an inspiration!

Scott.

I'm close to being out of the "new" school clydesdale's and my goal is to also be out of the "old" school also. I am registered for Rev3 Knoxville half as a clyde but currently at 223 with 4 weeks till race day. Dropped from 330 as of March 2012.

Congratulations! I used to think I could never be below Athena, but with the new 165, and the new eating style I have, I might!

(It's 165, right? I never thought it was relevant until here lately, so I didn't pay attention.)
