Run
Comments: They didn't chip timing at start only gun timing. It took us 90 seconds to get to the start and with 1400 women all starting at the same time, it was very congested and hard to pass people. I tried to stay up with Mom, but she would go through people, so I would have to wait and sometimes they would move together so I would wait longer. But I kept up with her....running a few steps behind her. Not until almost when we were done with mile 2 it was easier to run without dodging people. Then I went ahead of my Mom, but I felt bad so let up a little bit. She then she told me to go so I went and passed lots of people. I started to parking lot near the finish, I started sprinting and here I passed more people. They announced my name when I crossed the mat. I got my finsher medal which is very cool and took off my chip. Shortly after my Mom finished. What would you do differently?: Go faster sooner Post race
Warm down: I got water and walked around. I felt good because I finally beat my Mom. The Graves Girl team (mom & I) placed in the top 25% of mother-daughter teams which I though was cool as I'm 11 and she is older. Some of the teams had 20 year old daughters. What limited your ability to perform faster: Too many slow people blocking me in. Event comments: Race activities were terrific, but given how they had so many start at same time (5K & 10K) without chip timing, it made the run more difficult as it was congested. Mom and I woke up at 5:45 to get ready. I ate breakfast and we left for the race.
We met up with Patty and her friend, and met a new BTer Monica...we didn't see Ellen until just before the start. Porta Potty lines were so long, it took 15 minutes, and we got in line 3-4 minute before race start.
