Pre-race routine:

LOL - not my usual pre race routine. Saturday I had another race prep workout for Rev 3 and that involved a 3hr 15min hard swim/bike/run effort and this is the 3rd week of my 4 week training cycle so I am heading into a recovery week. I had no expectation of running a fast race. It was more practice running on tired legs and a weary body. Then the icing on the cake was a neighborhood get together in which I drank a bottle of presecco (myself) and getting about 5 hrs. of sleep. The presecco was a page taken from the Fatty Training Bible. :-)
Event warmup:

Got to the shuttle way too early which meant I got to the race start WAY TOO EARLY. It was so cold and windy. Luckily I was fairly well prepared and used the gear check for the first time. So I was able to stay warm for the 2 or so hrs. that I waited for the race to start. They provided some pre race bagels and coffee which I enjoyed. Also picked up my Boston ribbon and pinned it to my visor.

Comments:

The race starts off with a nice 1 mile downhill. I tried to get in a good rhythm and figure out what I had in the legs. Luckily I was not feeling the effects of drinking last night.

When I started the race, my feet had gotten so cold they were numb on the bottom. The legs were tight for the first few miles but I was able to pick up the pace and get stronger as the race went on. The gentle rolling downhills were matched by the same uphills but definitely a race for a PR in the future.

Basically I chugged along and checked my pace at the mile markers to make sure I was on track for a sub 90min finish. I was super pleased to see from the results that I had a negative split for the race - 44:30 (8:54) for the first 5 and 43:14 (8:39) last 5. I was fading the last 1/2 mile but I think with a little more training I could definitely hang on to this pace for another 3 miles.
What would you do differently?:

Not much - I knew this was a training run and honestly I don't think the evening prior had much influence on my race result. My head and stomach felt fine and the legs were as good as they were going to be after my Sat. workout. I was a good 5min off my best 10 miler and I think this is a good course for a PR. I will be back.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked straight out of the chute to the gear check, grabbed my bag and walked to the shuttles. I saw the first bus getting ready to leave so I ran to catch it. Last 3 on the bus then we left for the parking lots.

Event comments:

A+++ This may be the best race next to Disney that I have run especially on the organized side. Super efficient (and fast) shuttle service. The race started at 8am on the dot. Fabulous in and out for gear check. Food - shaky but plenty of bagels and bananas. Great shirt and volunteers. Plus they took care of the runners before the race which was very nice. They provided the mylar blankets at the start and hot coffee.

Great job!  Make a goal, and hit it.....I may need to try it.  The bottle of Prosecco?  That, unfortunately, sounds like something I would do.  Way to overcome!!
