As part of our community outreach, the Pickens Y-Race Team is organizing a 32 mile bike ride from Pickens up through Eastatoe Valley and back. The ride is free but riders are expected to be self supported. It is geared mostly toward intermediate riders. If there is any interest, we will be starting at Legacy Square beside the downtown McDonalds at the intersection of Hwy8 and 183. We will start gathering at 8:15am and hope to push off at 8:30am. No registration. Just show up. I have the course map as one of my routes. http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?route...

I would love to have you show up and lead the front group. Pace would be up to you. I am kinda committed to stay back and help out the middle.

There is a great photo-op where we turn on 178. If you keep going up you are pretty much committed to riding into Rosmond which is further than I think most of the riders want to go. If you need more miles I am up for more

This is also a nice place to start the ride to Caesars Head but probably a bad choice for tapering for a HIM.

Sounds pretty awesome. Since I'm a newbie, I'm also wondering how fast the ride is. I don't want to be a drag for the ride.

You won't be the slowest. Just pack enough water for a 2 1/2 hour ride. There are also a couple of escape routes if you don't feel up to the 30 miles. I would like a lead pack at 18-20 and a slower bunch at 12-14

I had to make a slight adjustment to the route do to a sink hole on Sangamo Rd which has taken out the road. It in no way reflects on the rest of the ride and is a minor change. The recent rains have been ridiculous

Coming back on main. It goes through an old housing area at first, We could also come back on a side street but the traffic on main coming from Oconee county is not bad. Going west gets a lot of lake traffic.

What pace are you planning for your taper? I may be up for another beating.

not really sure on pace, probably just under 20, but to be honest im not sure if im even going to be able to do the ride. i think i have somehow gotten both tendinitis and plantar fasciitis in my left foot. i've stayed off it for a few days so we'll see.

I'll probably be somewhere in the middle then. Now, it should be fine as long as I don't get lost!

Thank you again for the invite for this bike ride! Also, sorry about making a scene for getting lost on the ride. I've somehow stayed too long on the Eastatoee Creek Road and went east on Hwy 11 all the way to Table Rock. I wanted to apologize for making people worry about my safety. And I also want to thank everyone for staying after to make sure I was in one piece. I have a lot to learn and I very thankful to have had the opportunity to ride with great people.

I don't have contacts for many people that were at the ride, but if you can, please send them my thanks for their time and help!

It's all good. We were pretty sure you were fine. You now have my contact info since one of the calls was mine. I will post future rides here. Feel free to join the Y-race team and we can get you on the e-mail list. http://www.pcymca.net/join-the-y-running-team.php
It's free and you don't have to be a Y member at the present time.

Part of the reason I knew you were fine is you rode pretty strong. When we pulled up beside you in the truck and my wife offered the ride, you said your legs were still fresh. For some reason she thought that was hysterical and giggled about it for the next 10 minutes while we gathered the signs. She wasn't laughing at you, but with you. Good time for all.

And you seat is still too low

Thank you! I'll definitely try to come out as much as I can (and stay with the pack next time). I learned a valuable lesson of keeping my phone with me! Ugh. I just wish I didn't make people worried about me. So embarrassed.

Known for its brutal cadences, nasty sprints and 12-minute hills, the spin class seems to be the perfect substitute for a raunchy ride outside. But is it?
