Calgary Marathon

Sunny
Total Time = 4h 28m 12s
Overall Rank = 638/987
Age Group = m35-39
Age Group Rank = 88/111
Pre-race routine:

had a 5 guys burger the night before with a pile of fries. Not the best.
Training has sucked, but that is what it is.
Event warmup:

up at 4:45 had a banana and oatmeal. Got to the race by 5;50, mulled around. Hit the head a couple of times, some success, but I knew those fried onions be sitting around still. Wanted to run with the 4:30 pace group but there was none.

Comments:

really the best time. Started out a bit fast because I was looking for the pace bunny, so went with everyone, sub 6 per km for the first bit.

Slowed it down gradually, met up with Paul and Lourdes along the way, ran with them a bit. Slowed down a bit more.

Pretty even splits, about 2 minutes slower on the back half.

Did have to drop a deuce at about 18km, waited for 2 minutes to do it too, so there is that.

I had a great time, just put it on cruise, running well within my abilities. Passed a bunch on the last 5km, really turned it on, lol. well about 6:10 pace.

Finished super happy. Big smile, airplane down the finishing chute. Really super fun.
Post race
Warm down:

met with Darren, he did a 3:34, man, damn leg. I was keeping up to him back in January. Ahhhhhh, next year maybe. Or not, like i said, had a real fun time.

Had some pancakes. Had a muscle milk. Stiffened up. Went home. Sanded the deck for 2 hours. Feel okay on Monday but, for the first time in 4 years, no post marathon run. I look at this as a sign of maturity.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

injury

Event comments:

I give it a low rating. Everyone is cool, and well organized and it is great. But the course sucks. It sucks so hard. It goes this way and that, you can hardly see 500 meters ahead of you at any time. If it is close to you do it. But don't travel to this race.

I signed up for Ironman Frankfurt, next year July - and I am very excited about it. I originally planned to run my first Marathon in the middle of September, but am not sure if this is wise.
