Subject: Finished my first Triathlon!
I finished my first triahlon yesterday! The Trislip in Bay Shore, NY. It was great. The only disappointment was that the swim was cancelled due to high bacteria levels in the water. The swim was converted to a run making the race a 1k run, 9k bike and 4k run. The runs were slow (at 285 lbs running isn't my strongest event) but the bike felt pretty good. I passed quite a few people on the ride. I did it on a mountain bike with hybrid tires. I really want to get a road bike now. The best part of the race was having my 23 year daughter do it with me. We stayed together for the entire race. she actually took third place in the Athena division.

Thanks to all of you for the great advice and comments leading up to this race. I can't wait for the next one, Smith Point on August 4th.

Congrats on your accomplishment. Also cool that you could share it with your daughter. But, be careful. Triathlons can be addictive and good for your health.

Congrats!

Road bikes are fun toys to shop for. And then to trick out once you have one.... So are Wetsuits, better running shoes, tri shorts and tops, and everything else you now "have to have" to shave a few minutes.

Have fun!

Deciding on an Ironman as my first venture into triathlon was greeted with incredulity and astonishment combined with a hint of, "well, you're full of yourself aren't you?" and, "a bit ambitious?"

It has been a bucket list item for years...something to do before I'm 25. Okay, maybe I'll push that to 30. Okay, maybe I'll let it go altogether.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.

So after about 10,000 emails, dozens of phone calls, and one pre-race pasta dinner, the 1st meeting of the Steve's in a triathlon finally arrived.
