Total Time = 1h 24m 55s
Overall Rank = /
Age Group = 60-64
Age Group Rank = 2/4
Pre-race routine:

The usual, hydrate, rest room, get transition set up.
Event warmup:

Swim out to first buoy, a couple of quick sprints, swim back in.
Swim
  • 08m 21s
  • 440 yards
  • 01m 54s / 100 yards
Comments:

I never said this before but the swim was short. Since the swim is my best leg in my age group it didn't help me.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 00m 54s
Comments:

Got my left foot in easily but right foot got messed up. Strap pulled out of shoe and I had to get off bike to fix. This probably cost me 2 minutes at least.
What would you do differently?:

Put right foot in first as I normally do.
Bike
  • 48m 26s
  • 16 miles
  • 19.67 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike split was slow due to shoe problem. At one round about I almost stopped when a car entered and rider in front had to break. He almost went down.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, great ride. Had some back and forth with my competition which made it a fun ride as we kept passing each other and making comments.
Transition 2
  • 01m 4s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Run
  • 26m 10s
  • 3 miles
  • 08m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Great run for me. I felt good for most of the run. My competition passed me with about 200 yards to go and I couldn't stay with him.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Post race
Event comments:

My goal was to win age group. The guy that won had beat me by over 2 minutes in our last race. Since he beat me by 11 seconds this race it was a huge improvement.

At mile ten I heard a noise like I had gotten paper in my spokes or something. I looked but saw nothing but a few seconds later my rear tire blows out.

Are these races too close together to give me any sort of recovery? Will I be spent and unhappy racing back to back weekends and then again two weeks after that?

When I told my husband that I planned to work toward completing a sprint triathlon, he smiled and was supportive, but a bit disbelieving.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?

A 26 week, 6 race series plan for faster performance. A SILVER/GOLD member plan.
