Pre-race routine:

Hung around in the pissing down rain, dreading getting in the lake.
Event warmup:

Rubbed my hands together, twice.
Swim
  • 17m 24s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 19s / 100 meters
Comments:

Time includes transition. There are no split times, but I recorded my run time.

What a nightmare. Caught amongst weeds, couldn't get a proper stroke because hands were getting caught up in the plants. Caused me to panic and lose my breathing pattern. Ended up swimming most (80~85%) breast stroke. 4 people got pulled out of the swim. Sighting was good, because of swimming breast stroke.
What would you do differently?:

Don't know.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Wet socks from rain, wet feet from swim, no joy :s not too dizzy, kicked hard on the last bit of swim, but still had to sit down to put on shoes.
What would you do differently?:

?
Run
  • 23m 28s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 41s  min/km
Comments:

Edited. My split times and my 5 km times weren't adding up. Have adjusted my swim and run times for now until I can scrutinise the data tomorrow.

Went off too fast out of transition for the 1 st 500 m, around 3:15/km pace. Soon died, and slowed down. Quads were feeling heavy from 10 km race Sunday and a further 50 km of running since then. Stuck with a group of 2 for 1 st lap but got left part way into the 2 nd. I was then left on my own with no one on my back. Still pushed myself to the point where I almost lost my lunch in the last 600 meters

Disclaimer. Although my garmin has recorded this run as 4.87 km, I'm taking it as a 5 km as it was the same course as we did last month. I think it's because there is a little out and back bit attached to each loop and the garmin is not picking up the last part of the switch back. I was informed that the run had been measured out when I questioned the distance.

New 5 km tri and PB.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, I'm happy with it.
Post race
Warm down:

Cup of coffee and a biatch session about the swim

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Triffids. Panic attacks.

Oh what? You want to break 20 minutes in a 5K?

I heard this saying once, "Get a move on next time you old trout"

Smile Nahhh, nice going man. Pretty solid times there!

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.
