The Shawnee Mission Triathlon this Sunday will be my fiance's first triathlon. I'm really excited and proud of her for doing it, and to make it even better, we start in the same wave!

Obviously, the presents me with a few options to my swim start. I could start out in front like I planned, or take out some wedding planning frustrations by swimming over her or pulling her feet... I'm going to let everyone decide what I do about it....

All kidding aside (or not), hope everyone has a great race and is having a great 2013 season!

You better swim over her now, because Rachel will be swimming over you before you know it.

She may not appreciate getting swam over, but I can think of no better way for her to see what it's like and to grow as triathlete. You're actually helping her and should make sure you remind her of that frequently.

This.  I had a talk with her the other day when we were all working out.  She now knows how to take out people on the swim to gain an advantage.

Well, it looks like this is a no go. She starts in the wave before me. I guess I'll have to catch her...

It is going to be a time trial start, so encourage her to start at the back of her wave and you get to the front of your wave.  Then dipsy-doo-dunkaroo all you want.

Where are you finding wave times? Also, I haven't seen any info about a third start?

How does this work?
I did a race last year that was a 'time trial' start from a boat dock... Every 5 seconds 5 athletes would dive the next and go. Is this similar to what will happen at Smp?

The same group (JCPR) did the Corporate Challenge Tri last month. Two people started at a time, side by side standing on the beach. They say go, you run and jump in. Starts were 3-5 seconds apart. You have to swim over the the beach (start area). If you're an FOP swimmer I suggest getting towards the front of the line. At the Corporate Challenge Tri they didn't seed people by expected finish time, people just got in line.

Interesting that none of this new swim start time info is posted anywhere...? Or, did I miss it? I re-read the confirmation letter and the info in the packet... nada.

I did notice I'm in the last wave of the long course. I'm not egotistical, but I do get the back of the front of the pack and I'm not too geeked up to swim through 4 other waves of people, especially if it is a time trial start.

Speaking of, on the wave sheet, there is only 5 minutes between each wave. Is that long enough to get people out on time?

Should be interesting to have our bags searched and find out how they are really going to start the swim.

Bib# 45

Might have the greatest transition spot of all time.  Right at the end of the Swim In run, right next to the Bike In and on the correct side of rack.  Couldn't be better!

And for the exact opposite situation, I plan to be at the front of the first heat and not see a single person that isn't in a safety kayak.  >:-)  Unless Ross is back this year -- then I will draft him.  :-)

I'm 347, I see no mention of a TT start anywhere. These stickers suck BTW. My race bib looks like a mess as will my entire race. Just broke a rubber band on my old school aero drink. Bad mojo starting already.

Of to watch sporting get a W I hope. Sleep fast everyone, see you in the morning.

I'm #10, although since I'm just doing the relay there are 3 of us. I'm the unathletic one.

That's interesting, hopefully they modify that Time Trial start a bit from last time and launch maybe 30-100 people of a specified age range and gender every 5 minutes, they could call it a wave start.
