What's the best cycling route? Looking at Southfield to 12 mile to Grand River.

Replying to my own thread. Took Lincoln to Telegraph, Telegraph to 12 mile. 12 mile to Grand Ricer, Grand River to Island Lake. Left the house Sunday at 7 and got there at 8:15 am. Roads were 9 out of 10. Virtually no traffic. At least two lanes in each direction for 90% of the ride. Road surfaces were very good. Few traffic lights. Easy to navigate. Honestly, it couldn't be much easier.

Your listing of Telegraph made me wince, but I guess at 7am, it would be pretty light out there.

Did you ride back to Birmingham? What was your total mileage for that?

It was ~ 26 miles one way. I did not ride back home. Telegraph had virtually no one on it. I think about twenty cars total passed me from Lincoln down to 12 mile. Plus, the shoulder for most of the telegraph jaunt is almost a full lane wide, and virtually no road debris.

Try Lincoln to Franklin to 13mile to Meadowbrook to Grand River. I take most of that into work when I ride (12mile between Halsted and Haggerty so I turn down Halsted and take 12mile for about 1/2 mile).

You can come back that way in the middle of the day and still avoid most traffic.

Personally, I would avoid Telegraph, Southfield road and most of 12mile any day and any time.
