I really stoked about doing a Rev3 race, I've heard nothing but good things about the organization of these races. I'm down for the Oly, Anyone else?

I am in the for the half Rev. I'm very excited for it too. Have you heard whether it is expected to be wetsuit legal or not?

I'm in for the Half.  Did it last year too - unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy created dangerous rip currents (and lots of wind!), so the swim was cancelled.

Hard to say what water temp will be in Nov, i guess it will depend on the amount of storm activity in the gulf this fall. I didn't wear my wetsuit for St. Anthony in April and really wished I had.

I'm in for the half and really looking forward to it.

I think I saw something on the Rev3 web site that said the water temp in Venice during that time of year is mid to upper 70s so I'm planning to do it without a wet suit.

I was there last year - as mentioned there was no swim. But if memory serves it was borderline for the temperature for wetsuits.

if you're swimming .8 - 1.2km (or more), i'd go with the 'suit. unless u are in this competitively for pts, like the pros
I wouldn't worry about what others say re: suits LEGAL or not. Main concern is that u don't use one when water is
way too warm and u sweat it all out on the swim. haven't been to a big time official one like St A's that "officials" may
play hardass and tell u to lose the suit.

They won't stop you from wearing a wetsuit if the temp is too high, it is just that your time won't count. At least that's what I think.

My comment had absolutely nothing to do with the rules and everything to do with personal preference. My preference is to not wear a wet suit whenever possible and for me that is water temp of 74 and higher.

Last tri I did wet suits were not legal per USAT rules regarding water temp and officials made the announcement stating this but further stated that if anyone wanted to wear a wet suit they could but they would have to take a DQ, however they would still allow them to complete the race.

Athletes' guide is out - must mean the race is close!  Unfortunately, I'm in the last wave for the half; of course, so are all the other non-pro women!

NM, just looked, it's 83 oF. Does seem a bit doubtful it will drop 5 degrees in 2.5 weeks, non?

So far the water temps are hanging in the upper 70s and - at least for now - race day forecast is for sunny and 83F. If it holds it will be a good day for a race.

Getting close, looks like its gonna be a little breezy and definitely wetsuit legal. I haven't worn mine in 2 years

Took the dogs down to the dog-friendly beach in Venice this morning, adjacent to the race site.  The water has definitely cooled off in the last couple of weeks.  Water was pretty flat.

Was exciting watching the Rev3 crew getting everything set up.  Quite the operation, especially compared to the local races that I normally do.  They were out setting the buoys for the swim while we were there.

Good luck to everyone.

Did the practice swim this morning. Official NOAA water temp is 73.9. I didn't wear a wetsuit. Water was a little cool until you got past the sandbar. Most people were wearing wetsuits. I did a swim a couple days ago with the wetsuit and my shoulders felt so confined. I'm planning on racing without the wetsuit, unless I have a last minute panic......
Good luck tomorrow everybody who is racing.
