Overcast
Total Time = 1h 17m 23s
Overall Rank = 62/118
Age Group = Clydsdale
Age Group Rank = 3/7
Pre-race routine:

Got to the race very early, before the race director. Ate a tuna on onion bagel with a hot coffee on the way up. Ride up was NASTY! I had the GPS on just in case and was glad I did. I could not see the signs for the off ramps through the fog, and relied on the GPS to get me to the correct off ramps.
Event warmup:

Helped set up transition. This actually loosened me up more than I have been in 2 weeks.
Swim
  • 05m 27s
  • 250 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Forgot to start my Garmin, but not a big deal. Passed a slower swimmer and was passed by a faster swimmer who reseeded at the last minute. I did draft on the faster swimmer for the last 50 yards after the pass :). I think the swim time was slow due to the mat placement out of the water.
What would you do differently?:

not much, this was pretty good.
Transition 1
  • 01m 43s
Comments:

Not too bad a transition, but it felt way longer. Had trouble getting my feet into the shoes. Also could not see out of my glasses as they were fogged up. Eventually removed them on the bike course.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe some powder in the shoes to help my feet get in.
Bike
  • 35m 34s
  • 10 miles
  • 16.87 mile/hr
Comments:

The bike was surprisingly pleasant. I had not expected so much of the course to be closed or the traffic control to be that good.
What would you do differently?:

Train harder
Transition 2
  • 00m 43s
Comments:

Dang this was a great t2
What would you do differently?:

NADA
Run
  • 33m 58s
  • 3 miles
  • 11m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

This was difficult. Due to tweaking my back about 2 weeks ago, run training has not happened. I was actually just happy to be able to get to the run. As I ran, my back loosened up, and I was able to push the pace a little. Got passed by literally about 1/3 of the field.
What would you do differently?:

train
Post race
Warm down:

Walked the run backwards 2 times to cheer in the racers behind me. This race had almost 50% of the field as first time racers. Many of them came up to me and thanked me for cheering them on.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The usual suspects.

Event comments:

This would get a 5, but the timer was having a tough time with the results making the awards painful to wait for. Also, a team mate suggested I challenge the weight of the winner in the Clydesdale category. He was very close to the 200 lb cut off, but I am very happy with how I did, so who cares.

Great race! I was out riding right near there, the fog was intense that morning, especially that early!
