Subject: First Tri - Maryland
Hi all,

Just completed my first sprint tri last weekend. This site was very helpful so I thought I would join. Finished top third overall and in my age group (45 to 49). Swim was a disaster, but everything else went smoothly. Pretty stoked. My goal is to get faster in short events rather than moving up in length. No time to train for long events with kids and commute and work schedule..

Preparation was a 3-month coached couch-to-5k program, then 3 months of tri training on my own. For equipment, I got a new entry level aluminum road bike, but otherwise nothing special. I would like to make a few posts on my experience and what helped me plan and train. What is the appropriate forum for that?

Thanks,

Scott

Welcome to BT, Scott--and congrats, TRIATHLETE

Not sure if you wrote a Race Report but that would be the appropriate forum to post how you prepared for the race, how it went and results, and what's next.

Feel free to stop by the MD state board as well. We're not as active as we used to be, but we're around.

I have always been an athlete, growing up playing team sports like basketball and soccer. I also ran in a couple of 10K races every year, so I had no reason to worry about running a 5K...right?

I never imagined that 350 yards broken down into 7 REALLY long lanes would be so big! I gasped out loud and told Grady that maybe I had underestimated the swim.

In the past 18 months, I have delivered two babies, had meningitis, broken my pelvis, had two surgeries, worked full time, AND completed my first triathlon!

This life of mine is not so different from yours. It has a multitude of similarities. I suffer from uncertainty, I get nervous at the thought of registering and when getting to the starting line.

I am not going to buy a tri-suit before my first tri - I want to make sure I am going to stick with this before I spend a lot of money on it so I want to figure out what will work best.

I couldn't believe that my splits kept getting lower! I started to run harder after I passed the "5 km" sign and picked a few people that I wanted to pass.
