Ive tried both but got bored with them pretty quickly - I like the gym and weights better. This time around im debating if I should re-up my gym mebership which is $400 a year OR get back on the home videos...

Which one would you guys prefer or more geared towards strength training? I know Insanity is more plyometrics..

if you find the videos boring why are you considering going back to them?  why not just go back to the gym?

i'm doing insanity right now and i really like it - never tried P90X.  insanity is ALL bodyweight.  it is also $200 new and only a 9 week program - the gym membership may be worth it for you?

They guy loves his pushups and pullups..  That's for sure.

I have both (got them for free) and can't do insanity.  My knees are jacked from overuse due to tri training.

Have you looked at a P90x?Insanity hybrid?  They offer calendars online that combine the two that might be something more enjoyable to you.

Shawn T, and the guy on P90x Didnt get there muscle from there programs. They got there muscles from the Gym. They made these DVD's for the masses to get in shape, not build a lot of muscle, Dvd's were to make money.

You could also use the cost of your gym membership and set up a decent home gym if you have the space. Should be able to get a decent set of free weights, flooring, and probably some additional gear as well.

I like doing P90x at my gym. I love doing P90x for strength, flexibility, fat loss. My gym membership is for my family, doing P90x at my gym on my Iphone app is for me! I started another 90 day round today.

I've done both and wouldn't do Insanity for strength training. P90X is good for overall strength training, but if you get bored with it - are you going to do it? It's a long workout and will you have time for it with swim/bike/run? Even in the off-season training, I don't have time for P90x and maintain for race season.

If you haven't done either of the programs we should really point out a major difference. Plyometrics! Insanity was very hard on my knees, you will constantly be jumping and your feet leaving the ground - I often substituted squats when doing this with friends.

Whichever route you choose, stick with it. I started P-90X as a new years goal, it got in into strength training, then I developed a good amount of chest, back and arm strength and started focusing on my cardio. This got me into biking and swimming, boom the triathelete within me was born. It also exposes you to yoga, the Kenpo is like kickboxing and tons of fun. Its a solid "home" program and I didn't find it boring at all.

Insanity was great for core work but just too darn rough on the body with all the jumping. Cheers!

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!
