There's a lot of very valid comments in the post. Read them and let it all sink in. I get how you are feeling. I have DNF'd once due to severe dehydration. Everyone who has experience in triathlon, especially long and iron distances likely has a story. It happens. If it isn't a mechanical, nutrition, or crash related; it is something else. Sounds like you put in the work and were as prepared for the race as much as you could have been. Recover fully and get down to business for IMAZ. You will do great. I have discovered triathlon is a long, long journey we are all rambling through it. This is only a "speed bump" on that journey. It will make the finish at AZ all the sweeter.

Good luck.

It hurts to fall off a horse. But in order to learn how to ride one, you gotta get back on it.

On the day of the race my chain jumped off again and got wrapped so tightly around my crank that I couldn’t finish. I DNF'ed my first triathlon.

As a triathlete, there is one acronym that you just can’t fathom ever having next to your name in a race report – DNF: DID NOT FINISH.

Whether your bike is new, new to you, or you have not been on the bike for a long time, you really should spend some time thinking about how your bike fits you.

As every veteran athlete can attest, a non-existent or ill planned ‘race meal plan’ will leave you falling far short of your goals or even worse, in the medical tent.
