Subject: Custom Training Plan - Workout Minutes/Distance
Hi,
I have a question relating to how the minutes/distance is determined for the warm-up, main set, and cool down for the workouts. More specifically, for the run and the bike. Below are run and bike workouts that were created by the custom training plan. For the warm up, it has me running at 7:09 pace which is nearly my 10k race pace (7:00). For the bike warmup and cool down, it has me at 21mph which is my race pace. Is there something wrong with this or did i set something up wrong? I deleted and recreated the plan just to make sure it said to enter your race pace.

Thanks for time,
Rusty

For WU and CD, go by 'duration'.  Distance is there only as an estimate (to pick a route) - don't calculate a pace off of it and try to run/bike/swim it at that pace.

For the MS workouts, don't go by a calculated pace either.  Go by 'duration' and follow the heart -rate/RPE zones, that will determine pace.

Let me know if this helps or not.

Thanks for the quick response!

Your explanation makes sense. I'll go by duration as you suggested.

Thanks again.

Using a high-volume schedule for many months is not the best tactic. Build speed and skill several months out, and then transition to a high-volume IM plan.

I really want to do an Olympic distance but I feel it is a little too far right now. Which training plan should I follow? The sprint sounds too easy for what I'm doing but the Olympic seems too much?
